Q.1 a) 5th byte of ATM cell is used to trace out the error . Justify how ? Ans:- HEC - (Header Error Control). Provides a capability to correct all single bit errors in the cell header as well as the detection of the majority of multiple-bit errors. The use of this field is up to interpretation of the equipment designers. If most errors are likely to be single bit errors, it can be used for error correction. Using the field for error correction does carry some level of risk of introducing unwanted errant traffic on the network should a mistake be made in the correction process. Ques 2:-b) Explain cell mapping technique followed by European countries? Ans:- European countries mostly follow the E3 ATM PLI . The E3 interface operates at 34.368 Mbps over coax cables, compliant with ATM Forum UNI specifications. It supports both PLCP and direct cell mapping and complies with the following standards: G.751, G.832. it gives 530 bytes of payload capacity after 125 micro sec Q.2 a) Pen Down mathematical relation between explain the elements of ATM traffic? Ans:- pen down mathematical relation:BT and MBS .Also

BT is calculated-{(MBS-1)/SCR-(MBS-1)/PCR}={(MBS-1)/((1/SCR(1/PCR))} This is the relation between the bt and mbs .by this equation we can solve the numerical. And now come to the point on elements of atm traffic and these are the following: Average data rate Maximum allowable rate Burst duration

Average data rate:- : it is the average data rate for the duration of data transfer Maximum allowable rate: it is the maximum data rate that a user allows at a instant point of time Burst Duration: it is the time duration in which a user is allowed to send data at maximum allowable rate Ques:-b) ICICI bank needs to implement ATM network to assist their customers for secure transfer of money with live Video streaming facility. Which service class of AAL do they suppose to implement ? ans:- ) ICICI bank needs to implement ATM network to assist their customers for secure transfer of money with live Video streaming facility, so they use aal 1 type of atm adaptation layer. AAL1 prepares a cell for transmission. AAL1 is appropriate for transporting telephone traffic and uncompressed video traffic. It requires timing synchronization between the source and destination and, for that reason, depends on a media that supports clocking, such as SONET. Q.3 UMTS supports ATM network . Justify with an architecture? Ans:- umts stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a third generation mobile cellular technology for networks based on the GSM standard. Developed by the 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership project). UMTS specifies a complete atm network system, covering the radio access network UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network. A UMTS network consist of three interacting domains; Core Network (CN), UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) and User Equipment (UE). The main function of the core network is to provide switching, routing and transit for user traffic. Core network also contains the databases and network management functions. The basic Core Network architecture for UMTS is based on GSM network with GPRS. All equipment has to be modified for UMTS

operation and services. The UTRAN provides the air interface access method for User Equipment. Base Station is referred as Node-B and control equipment for Node-B's is called Radio Network Controller (RNC). UMTS system page has an example, how UMTS network could be build. It is necessary for a network to know the approximate location in order to be able to page user equipment. Here is the list of system areas from largest to smallest. UMTS systems (including satellite) Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) MSC/VLR or SGSN Location Area Routing Area (PS domain) UTRAN Registration Area (PS domain) Cell Sub cell Q.4 a) Explain the modulation technique/es supported by ATM networks? Ans:- Modulation is a technique used to transmit some information (digital or analog) by encoding the information onto an analog carrier signal. Modulation is used by modems to transmit digital data signals over analog transmission lines such as the public telephone network. Modems at each end of the communication link perform the digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversion. These are the following modulation tech niques that supported by atm networks are:

Modulation techniques AM (amplitude modulation)

FM (Frequency modulation) PM (phase modulation)

Amplitude modulation:In AM, a carrier wave is encoded by varying its amplitude in accordance with an instantaneous amplitude of the modulated signal (input signal). Frequency modulation:Frequency can be defined as the rate of change of phase of a signal. In this type of modulation, information is transferred through a carrier by varying its instantaneous frequency Phase modulation:In this type of modulation, information is transferred through a carrier by varying carrier

b) Calculate number of payload and Frames formed for 22.5 Kb data when transmitted over ATM network , if network supports 48 bytes of payload with 20 voice channels in frame. Ans :One data cell= 53 bytes Payload =48 bytes

We have to send 22.5 kb data which is equal to 23040bytes No of cells =23040/53=435 approx Payloads =435 1 frame = 20 chanels Total memory of payloads=435*48=20880

Total no. of frames=20880/20=1044 ans
