Its very important to say thank you. I learned that from my parents and I hope Ive always tried to do it. We all like to be appreciated and to know that someone values our contribution, no matter how small. Therefore.. On behalf of the whole parish I want to say Thank You to all who made Holy Week, the Easter Triduum and Easter Sunday such a wonderful time in the liturgical and prayer life of the parish. Thank you to our Ministers of Word and Eucharist, Choirs, Servers, Ushers and Greeters, Environment Ministry and their many helpers, the SCCs and MOP (Small Christian Communities and Maintain Our Parish), A/V Ministers, Baptismal Team, those who prepared the elect for baptism, Sacristans, Franciscan Friars and Parish Staff for the long hours, hard work and dedication to the service of the wider community that is our beloved parish of Mission San Luis Rey. I would like to offer a particular word of thanks to our Head Usher, Tom Crowder, for his oversight and for putting up with me. Holy Week and Easter is when we put on all our finery, pull out all the stops and give of our very best as we celebrate the Lords passion, death and glorious resurrection. As we waved palms together on Palm Sunday in honor of the Lords triumphant entry into Jerusalem, washed feet and remembered the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, kissed the Cross together on Good Friday, and at the Easter Vigil watched our new sisters and brothers go down into the waters of baptism, we were almost perfectly the Church, the holy people of God. Despite our imperfections, limitations and our penchant for making a mess of it, we are still a family walking, dancing and sometimes stumbling our way to glory with Christ. I am very proud to be part of us. And now to other things: We have a new Guardian (Leader) of the Franciscan Community at San Luis Rey. Fr. Luis takes over as Guardian from Fr. Larry. Fr. Larry was Guardian of the Friars at Scottsdale before coming to us three years ago, and after nine years in that role the Guardian must go back down the ranks again and become a private. The Guardian is the friar who looks after the spiritual and material welfare of the other friars, encouraging their gifts, correcting their faults and loving them in what St. Francis called a motherly way (warmly and tenderly) rather than as a superior. St. Francis didnt like the word superior or prior because it put the leader above the other friars. The Guardian is rather the brother with the extra responsibility of serving and caring for his brothers in a particular way. Its a model of leadership that the whole Church might adopt? But thats another topic for another day.

Our Discernment Group is meeting again on Wednesday 25th at the Mission at 7:00 pm. If you are a man wanting to look at what the Lord might be asking of you, give me a call at 760-547-0723 for more information. If you have called already and I have not gotten back, please call again and be very welcome. I may have missed your call in the busy days leading up to Easter. Apologies, if I did. We laid Fr. Jerry to rest on Tuesday 17th following Mass at the Parish Chapel. It was filled with his friends and many parishioners who tearfully bade farewell to a beloved priest and a good friend. Fr. Jerry had been a chaplain in the Air Force, a priest of the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska, for many years, and in retirement, a member of our parish at San Luis Rey. Known for his humor and good nature he was an example to us all prayerful, kind, generous and warmhearted. May he rest in peace! Have a blessed week ahead and be kind to each other.

Sharing our talents arises from the fact that God has given each of us the ability and gifts to do certain things well, and we are to develop those talents for the good of others. Giving of our time involves being with God in prayer and worship and volunteering our time in the Church community activities that help others. As Catholics, we are not to focus only on ourselves but are called by our baptism to reach out and share our time, talent, and treasure with our brothers and sisters. We dont give because we have a lot and can afford it; we give because of a desire to share what we have with others. The invitation to serve reminds us to count our blessings, acknowledge Gods gifts to us and express thanks to the Lord by a proportionate giving of our time, talent and treasure. The decision to give and serve has not so much to do with budgets and calendars. Rather, the decision to give and serve is really a matter of putting our lives with God into perspective. If we give ourselves to the works of God and let the Lord use our talents to serve others, we will be amazed by the results. Not only will our lives be changed but so will the lives of others. Sunday, May 20th is Welcome Sunday in our parish. Consider joining us on this special day, when we will be welcoming our newly registered parishioners and offer all parish members the opportunity to sign up to serve one of the many ministries we have to offer. Christmas in July Jewelry Boutique

Each year, the resale jewelry boutique attracts crowds of shoppers who support our parish school through their purchases during the OMMS Christmas in July fundraiser. As the boutique chairwoman for the 5th year, I can tell you that the school is very grateful to the generous ladies who have donated jewelry in past years. Once again, we are collecting AND WE DO NEED YOUR HELP. If you have jewelry that you never wear, please consider donating it to help the school raise funds. We accept costume jewelry of any era, gold or silver jewelry, broken chains and watches, and old rosaries. Without your generosity ladies, there would be no boutique. We rely entirely on parishioners for donations. THE NEED HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER. If you have a large collection or valuable pieces to donate, I am happy to meet with you personally. Prayer Day at Mission Retreat Center

You will have your own private room, a simple box lunch, and all day to do as you want. ADULT CONFIRMATION (WHAT CATHOLICS BELIEVE)

What Catholics Believe is a process of introduction and review of the basic beliefs of the Catholic Faith. At our parish this program is our Adult Confirmation Process. The twelve sessions of the program are media based and are interactive quizzes on the Catholic Faith. Confirmation is the sacrament required to be a Godparent and to celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony. Celebracin de Despedida
Es muy importante decir gracias. Yo aprend eso de mis padres y espero yo haber tratado siempre de hacer esto. A todos nosotros nos gusta ser apreciados y saber que alguien valora nuestra contribucin, sin importar que tan pequea. Por lo cual En nombre de toda la parroquia yo quiero darle las Gracias a todos los que hicieron posible Semana Santa, el Triduo Pascual y el Domingo de Pascua un tiempo tan maravilloso de la vida de liturgia y de oracin de la parroquia. Gracias a nuestros Ministros de La Palabra y de Eucarista, a los Coros, Servidores, Acomodadores y Ministros de Hospitalidad, al Ministerio del Ambiente y todos sus ayudantes, a los Ministros de AV (Audio Visual), al Equipo de Bautismal y aquellos preparando a los Electos para el Bautismo, a las Pequeas Comunidades y a MOP (Manteniendo Nuestra Parroquia), Sacristanes, a los Frailes Franciscanos y al Personal Parroquial las largas horas, trabajo duro y dedicacin al servicio de nuestra querida comunidad Parroquia Misin San Luis Rey. Yo quisiera ofrecer un agradecimiento en particular a nuestro Acomodador Principal, Tom Crowder, por su supervisin y por aguantarme a mi. La Semana Santa y el Da de Pascua es cuando nosotros nos ponemos de gala, y dar lo mejor de nosotros al celebrar la Pasin del Seor, Su muerte y su gloriosa resurreccin. Al sostener juntos las palmas en Domingo de Ramos en honor a la entrada triunfante del Seor a Jerusaln, el lavatorio de los pies y el recordar la Ultima Cena el Jueves Santo, al besar la cruz juntos el Viernes Santo, y ver a nuestros nuevos hermanos y hermanas entrar a las aguas del bautismo, casi un Iglesia perfecta, el pueblo santo de Dios. A pesar de nuestras imperfecciones, nuestras limitaciones y nuestra inclinacin de hacer un lo de estas, nosotros an somos una familia que camina, a veces bailando y a veces tropezando en nuestro camino a la gloria de Cristo. Yo estoy muy orgulloso de ser parte de nosotros. Y ahora a otras cosas: nosotros tenemos un nuevo Guardin (Lder) de la Comunidad Franciscana en San Luis Rey. El Padre Luis Guzmn asume el control como Guardin. El Padre Larry era Guardin de los Franciscanos en Scottsdale antes de venir a nosotros hace tres aos, y despus de nueve aos en ese papel el Guardin tiene que volver a bajar a las filas de nuevo y convertirse en un privado. El Guardin es el fraile que se ocupa del bienestar espiritual y material de los dems frailes, alentando sus dones, corrigiendo sus faltas y amndolos en lo que San Francisco de Ass llamndole una forma maternal (calurosa y tierna) en lugar de un superior. A San Francisco no le agradaba la palabra superior o prior porque pona al lder por encima de los otros frailes. El Guardin es ms bien el hermano con una responsabilidad extra de servir y cuidar a sus hermanos en una forma particular. Es un modelo de liderato que la Iglesia entera podra adoptar? Pero esto seria un tema para otro da. Que tengan una bendecida semana y sean cortes unos a otros. Nuestra familia parroquial esta invitada a decirle adis a nuestro Prroco, Padre Chuck. Tendremos una celebracin de despedida para despedirlo el:

Dos grandes retos que se enfrentan hoy en la Iglesia Catlica en este pas: con la decadencia del nmero de clrigos y la disminucin del nivel de contribuciones. Por fortuna, han surgido dos desarrollos contemporneos florecientes han surgido para enfrentar esos dasafos: Ms laicos estn donando una porcin significativa de su tiempo y de su talento para la construccin de una iglesia y un mundo mejor. Ms laicos estn igualmente empezando a darse cuenta de que han recibido un don inmenso, nuestra fe Catlica.

Que privilegio tan grande de ser Catlicos y de vivir la fe Catlica con claridad, con pasin, con responsabilidad, con celo, con gozo. El haber recibido este tesoro, debemos ser administradores responsables y apasionados de la Iglesia. Como administradores apasionados y responsables de la Iglesia, nosotros vivimos nuestro compromiso mediante el testimonio de nuestra forma de vida. Sin embargo, ser buenos, evitar el mal, no es suficiente. Nosotros somos llamados a ser miembros vivos de la Iglesia. Es precisamente a travs de el uso apasionado y responsable de nuestro tiempo, nuestro talento y nuestro tesoro que nosotros contribuimos al crecimiento y desarrollo de nuestra familia parroquial. Cada uno de nosotros tiene el poder de ser un miembro activo dentro de nuestra familia parroquial y tenemos la responsabilidad de vivir nuestro compromiso dentro de nuestra parroquia.
