Job Description The Automatic Control and Systems Theory group at the Department of Mechanical engineering of Ruhr-Universitt Bochum invites applications for a PhD or postdoctoral position in control of energy systems which is to be filled as soon as possible. Successful candidates will become members of a team that addresses the application of model based control methods, such as model predictive and optimal control, to solar power plants and their components. The project encompasses physical modeling, tailoring and implementation of control methods, and simulation and testing of the developed approach in cooperation with a leading industrial partner in the field. Requirements for Applicant

Subject Requirements (Qualification) Ideal candidates have - a background in automatic control and modeling, - are interested in research with industrial partners, - have a master level degree in mechanical, electrical, or energy engineering or a related field if they want to pursue a Ph.D., or a Ph.D. in one of these fields if they are interested in a postdoctoral position, - have good knowledge of German and English. Applicants without German language skills will be given the opportunity to take German courses for incoming students and postdocs offered by RUB. Experience in the field of modeling and control theory of energy systems, or experience in thermodynamics, for example from student projects, are an advantage but not compulsory. Successful candidates are expected to engage in teaching activities such as the supervision of student projects or the supervision of bachelor and master theses, as well as in general administrative tasks.
