We continue to invest in our design and fabrication facilities with plant, equipment, high speed automatic laser cutting equipment and software. CHAS is the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme. Managed by London Borough of Merton it assesses the Health and Safety element of pre-qualification. It ensures that we comply to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. Constructionline is a register of approved suppliers who have been assessed on their financial standing, technical references, environmental policy, quality systems and insurance details. We as a member believe it helps to reduces the need for filling in and assessing pre-qualification forms which saves you the buyer time and money. CSCS is the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. It was set up to improve quality and reduce accidents in the construction industry. All our installers carry a CSCS card and have undertaken the Operative Health and Safety Test. Building Confidence is quickly becoming recognised as the standard for supplier excellence within the industry. Major contractors are using the service to evaluate their supply chains, drive up performance and forge longer lasting relationships with key suppliers. Steelway offer a full project management and installation service on the full range of products, which we design and manufacture. These include access metalwork, fencing products, security kiosks, cages, specialist fabrications and access covers and frames. We install our products throughout the United Kingdom and can offer project management support for overseas projects. We have many years experience in installing our products in defence establishments, airports, prisons, water utilities, railways, telecommunications infrastructure, power generation facilities including nuclear and general construction projects. The project management and installation team are based at our Wolverhampton manufacturing plant. This highly experienced and trained team consists of a Project Site Operations Manager supported by specific project managers, framework project managers, installation managers who are backed up by site supervisors and fully equipped and trained installation teams. Our involvement on individual projects can last from 1 day to 2 years and we have worked on projects up to the value of 2.5million. However, most large projects take 6 to 12 weeks to reach completion and have values between 100k to 250k. We offer a full turnkey project installation service including: site plant and craneage, full site installation survey, backed up by site specific risk assessments, method statements and site handover documentation provided as standard practice. We are fully committed to the safe installation of all our products and have been awarded the Platinum Standard for our commitment to CSCS membership. We are also accredited to the Safe Contractor scheme. These proposals are then submitted to the customer for approval. Upon receipt of an order, 3D Designs are produced to the most exacting requirements to ensure stability and durability.

The Steelway range of flush fitting access covers and frames include the unique Stamp-Lock locking device as standard. The Stamp-Lock devices allow for the padlock to be contained within the locking device and is extremely easy to open and close. The range has been designed for use for use on a variety of projects containing chambers that are opened frequently and are subject to slow moving vehicular traffic. Thames Water - Honor Oak New Pumping Station Shaft

The existing Honor Oak reservoir was built in the early 1900s. The reservoir was supplied with water from various sources. The purpose of this project was to enable water to be directly drawn from the Thames Water ring main at Brixton, which was 4.7 kilometres away. A shaft 60 metres deep by 11 metres in diameter was constructed to enable a tunnel-boring machine to drive a tunnel to Brixton and connect it to the Thames Water ring main. When the tunnel was complete, the Honor Oak shaft was fitted out to become a new shaft pumping station, which enabled water from the ring main to be directly pumped into the Honor Oak reservoir. Our involvement in the project was to design, manufacture, install and commission access metalwork to facilitate access and the services from top of the shaft to the bottom. The project required critical interface with all the services, ducting, piping, mechanical and electrical work. By using the project 3D model of the shaft and services, we were able using our own 3D Inventor design suite to interface accurately our access metalwork to all the other facilities. We designed a multi flight staircase with intermediate main platforms and associated structural support steelwork. The installation interface was also critical to the project enabling other contractors to use our access metalwork to access their areas of work and fit out. There were critical phases, where 24-hour onsite installation was required over a several week period to meet project completion dates.

Afan WwTW
Our client was providing a sludge digester solution for the Welsh Water Alliance, at Afan WwTW near the coast at Port Talbot. Part of their scheme included two large sludge digester tanks. Our brief was to provide safe access from ground level to the top of the two 20 metre high x 18 metre diameter tanks. Steelway designed, manufactured and installed a set of cantilevered open mesh staircases, handrails and necessary landings, all to meet the Welsh Water specification. Near the top of the two tanks, we also provided a structural platform suitable to support a 9.3 tonne sludge draw off tank. To the perimeter at the top level of both 18 metre diameter tanks, we supplied and installed triple line handrails complete with wire mesh infill panels. To the ground level of both tanks, we manufactured and installed wire mesh lockable enclosures to deter un-authorised access to the stairs. The project required a close working relationship between ourselves and our customer, the tanks included numerous tensioning cables within their construction, we needed to ensure all fixings supporting our stairs etc. did not clash with these. The scheme was completed on time and to the satisfaction of our client and the Welsh Water Alliance.
