Mailee Yang FAML 420 The Learning Model The learning model has three main steps: preparing,

participating and applying, and teaching others the things we learned. To prepare for our classes means that we do whatever we are assigned to do with the right attitude. If we dont begin with the right attitude, which is to be open and willing to learn and do the work that is required to learn, then we wont be open to the Spirit and what we can learn from the Spirit. We also tend to rush through our readings and assignments. When we go to class its important for us to be attentive to what our instructor and classmates have to say. We are helping others practicing the learning model this way, by letting them teach us. Teaching others can be done in various ways. By participating in class discussions we are teaching others and giving them different perspectives and insight. Also, when someone needs help we can help them with their assignments and help them understand what they didnt understand previously. In counseling, the learning model definitely applies. We need to prepare ourselves to counsel others. We have to prepare ourselves by trying not to have prejudices and being bias. We also need to learn from previous experiences and apply the lessons we learned to other people so that we understand or have an idea of what theyre going through. The next step is to apply what we prepared for and learned to help others. And we can teach others by helping them understand the situation their going through and talking and asking them about their feelings and emotions so that they can organize these things and see what theyre options are and how to make the decision that is best for them (by themselves). My main commitment this semester is to focus on preparing. Last semester it was on teaching others, but I know that for me to be able to increase my knowledge on subjects and to be the best student I can be, I have to have a good foundation and prepare myself for discussions and tests. Its so

important to strengthen our foundation and have a basic understanding of things in order to increase our knowledge on those subjects that we want to learn more of. I will do all of my assignments, readings, papers whatever it takes for me to understand things. I will pray before I study and before I take classes. I will be prepare myself to be a good disciple of Christ and follow Him and obey His commandments, because I know it is when we put God first that we will have our lives fall in order.
