Are girls better than boys at shooting basketball hoops?

My statistics project was on whether girls or boys are better at shooting basketball hoops. From the results that I got, girls are definitely better at shooting hoops than boys. What I did was I randomly picked 3 girls and 3 boys out of each class and I let them shoot as many hoops as they could in 2 minutes, my conclusion is that girls are better than boys at scoring basketball hoops. My research question was Are girls better than boys at shooting basketball hoops? My prediction was that girls would be better than boys because when it was the basketball season the girls won all the games except for 1 and the boys lost most of them so I thought that the girls would be better than the boys. I have also seen the boys play and I think that girls use different skills and better techniques.

Calculations Mean, Median, Mode and Range Mean There are 15 people in all. To find the mean I have to add up all the of the fx. I have to then divide the total number of fx by the amount of people which is 15. Median What I did to find the median was I wrote down the scores and repeated them according to how many people got that score. I kept on canceling one number from each side and in the end I got the middle number, and that number is the median. Mode To determine the mode I had to look at the chart and see which of those number occurs the most frequently. For example, 7 girls got 6 shots so the mode would be 6. Range To find the range I had to find the difference between the lowest and highest score. According to my chart the highest score was 10 and the lowest score was 0, so the range is 10. Boys calculations: Mean (average) = 4.1 Range = Median = 4 Mode = 4

This is graph compares the amount of shots that girls and the boys made. This graph shows: The maximum number of shots that year 8 girls got is 7 The maximum number of shots that year 8 boys got is 10 The score that most girls got was 6 The score that most boys got was 4 and 5 No boys or girls got 8 or 9 basketball hoops Mode 4 6

The Area of Interaction that is related to my topic is Approaches to Learning because I had to set up an experiment and I had to pick an equal amount of boys and girls from each class and I had to ask them to help me with my experiment. I have tried to make the experiment reliable by removing the shot that was made at the last second, if they stepped in front of the line, using the same equipment for everyone, giving the same amount of time for everyone and letting everyone shoot in the same space and angle. The information is reliable as I was present when the experiment was performed,. I worked effectively with the people who were a part of the survey as well as with my partner. I worked effectively with my partner by having no arguments which meant we made fast agreements, no distractions, we split different and equal roles, we did everything quickly and we did everything under the time limit. I think overall what we did was successful because we managed to get an equal amount of boys and girls from each class. We also got people of different abilities so that the shooting would be fair, we

The information is shown using a frequency distribution table and a comparison graph. The frequency distribution table shows the different scores people got, the frequency and the fx. The comparison graph displays the difference between the girls score and the boys score. The comparison graph compares the boys score to the girls score to show a clearer understanding of the differences. If I had to choose another kind of graph I would either do a pie chart or a line graph. One disadvantage of a pie chart is that it is not detailed enough so if no one got a certain amount of shots then it would not show on the chart while the good thing is that it is simple and shows the information clearly. A disadvantage of a line graph is that it sometimes gets confusing, and the advantage is that it compares the boys score to the girls score. My results were very easy to get but there were a few challenges along the way. Getting the people together was a big challenge due to timing of classes, the pace at which the people were walking wasted a lot of time and some refused to co-operate. What was easy for me was gathering the equipment as my partner and I split equal roles and worked efficiently as a team. I came to the conclusion that girls are better than boys at shooting basketball hoops. If I had to do this experiment again what I would do differently is that I would take pictures so that I have evidence of every step of the experiment and also it would make it more visual and easy to relate to. I chose to do my statistics project on this topic as I wanted to find out which team is better at shooting basketball hoops. I was in the basketball team and I have always wanted to play against the boys to see who were better at shooting hoops but I never had the chance to so I took this opportunity to get evidence and also have fun with the entire experiment.
