Webcast/Live Chat: Typically on Sunday (8pm-9pm) College Success: Back On Course (Distance Learning) is designed to assist the LANE disqualified student get back into Good Standing. Participants will learn about college expectations and develop skills that create greater academic and personal success. Discovering internal and external resources will help you take charge of your academic directions and outcomes. CS: Back On Course empowers you to make wise choices in your academic life. The distant learning option can be a challenging mode of learning. Therefore, you must be fully committed to this course in order to make the most of this learning opportunity. Accepting personal responsibility will be key to ones success! Each student is expected to access Moodle on consistent basis (a minimum of every other day is suggested). Back On Course Objectives - By the end of the term, you will learn how to: Take greater personal responsibility gaining more control over the outcomes created in your academic and personal life Successfully navigate college policies and procedures Anticipate and balance a variety of life roles Identify college resources and develop mutually supportive relationships Develop effective decision-making skills using the wise choice process Improve self-management by learning strategies to establish goals, monitor progress, and use a calendar system Improve communication and assertiveness to seek what you need Develop a personalized success plan Required Materials On-Course Strategies for Creating Success in College and in life, 5th edition Lane Community College version Lane Catalog on-line (www.lanecc.edu/instadv/catalog/online/online.htm) Moodle Access Every other day access recommended! Learning Methods and Measurements of Learning - Most of your learning experiences will be through the On Course book, Moodle or the LANE website. Completing your work in a timely manner is a must in order to receive full credit. Do not wait until the last moment to complete and submit your work as this is usually not a best practice. Please Moodle Message me if your work will be late. Special Note: The only exception to turning in late work is if you have a personal loss in your close family or illness that is documented. These matters are managed on an individual basis and exceptions to late work are not guaranteed. Reflective assignments are designed to help you integrate the course material and deepen your learning. Most of your work is due on Sundays by 10:00 PM. One point will be deducted for every day an assignment is late. No late work will be accepted for point value after 5 days.

Special Note: All College Success: Back On Course work will be submitted via Moodle in the their respective areas. Do not e-mail them to me. Special Note: No extra credit is available for College Success. Because of this you should make every effort to complete your work fully and submit them on time. Quizzes - There are (7) Module/Quizzes throughout the term based on the On Course readings and resource information. Each quiz is worth 20 pts; a total of 10 questions worth two points each. All quizzes are to be completed on Moodle by their identified deadline. Special Note: Dont wait until the last minute to complete them. Murphys Law What can go wrong will. No quizzes will be accepted after they time out (60 minutes). Seldom is there an exception to this. Grading Criteria This is a graded (1 credit) class. However, you may consider taking the class with a Pass/No Pass option. Most students would opt for the letter grade if they are doing well in the class. You have until the end of the 8th Week of the term to select your grade option on myLane. I (Incomplete) may be negotiated if you have some special circumstance that has occurred and less than 25% of the course work remains to be completed. You must initiate the incomplete contract prior to the end of the term. NC (No Credit/No Basis for Grade) will be issued if the instructor believes the student has not participated enough in a class to merit a grade. It is not used to substitute for a failing or incomplete grade. Special Note: Both Incomplete and No Credit grades can adversely affect your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Conversely, an A grade will improve your current and cumulative GPA. Grade Scale: A = 300 - 270 pts B = 269 240 pts C= 239 209 pts D= 208 178 pts F = 179 pts and below Respectful Environment:

It is critical that this learning experience be safe and respectful for all participants. Week 10 Due: Your response to my Moodle Message with your final grade Individual grades will be distributed via Moodle Message. This will allow you to compare your grade sheet with my records. You'll have an opportunity to contest any grades or point values awarded prior to me submitting final grades on myLane. You MUST Moodle Message me prior to Thursday, 6/07/12 (10pm) should you disagree with your final grade.

Week 11 Due: Final grades will be posted on myLane One on One consultation will be available if need. Appointments can be conducted via Moodle "Live Chat", webcast or in-person. Final grades will be posted on myLane by Wednesday, 6/12/12 by 12pm.

Assignments and Journals are worth 15 points each and will typically take about 1 hour to complete. To achieve full points the assignment should be completed in full, with evidence the background material has been read and understood, done neatly and legibly, and there should be evidence of your best effort. Complete instructions are found in the description for each assignment. Select Resources on the Moodle course. Special Note: All College Success work should be posted on Moodle by their respective due dates. If for any reason you are unclear about my instructions, an assignment, topic, and/or activity I expect you to contact immediately. Should I not hear from you I assume that everything is going well and that you are clear about course expectations. My contact information is located at the beginning of this syllabus.
