Rainwater Harvest Facilities will resolve the water shortage in Baguio

Baguio City government is conducting a research on how to utilize rainwater harvesting facilities that will give solution to the water shortage. Rainwater catchment facilities will be installed in barangays, schools and other establishments. At present, the city is implementing the underground water catch basin at Quezon Hill-San Carlos Heights area. The catchment basin will also be executed at the Baguio Convention Center grounds. But because of the fast vaporization, the city had found it ineffective. According to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, they will still conduct studies that will help them solve this problem. They will also upgrade the water retention capability of the citys reservoir. In a proposal submitted by Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, the Baguio Water District (BWD), City Environment Parks and Management Office (CEPMO) and City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) should inspire other institutions and barangays to formulate ways to help the city in harvesting rainwater to save commercial water supply. Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia also proposed for a committee who will guard the catchment facilities among households. City public information officer Ramon Dacawi advocated on retaining open grounds to allow rainwater to go deep into the grounds and perform water production cycle naturally. To implement these suggestions legally Mayor Domogan will release an administrative order.
