Program Assistant- Fresno Boys and Men of Color Project (Position located in Fresno, California- 18 month position)

50 % FTE (with an opportunity for 100% FTE) Salary commensurate with experience PolicyLink is looking for a highly skilled Program Assistant to assist a Senior Program Associate and PolicyLink team dedicated to building a Boys and Men of Color (BMoC) Network that strives to improve the health and success of Californias boys and young men of color in 10 years. The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to an 18-month capacity-building project PolicyLink is undertaking in partnership with the Fresno Program Office of The California Endowment. This professional-level position, available immediately, is an exciting opportunity to join the staff at PolicyLink. Project & Position Overview The goals of the project are twofold. The first is to develop and launch an effective Policy & Systems Change Strategy/Plan to improve the health outcomes of BMoC in Fresno. The priority focus of the campaign will be on moving the dial on key health indicators among BMoC in the BHC site and other vulnerable neighborhoods in the city and region. The second objective is to build permanent organizational capacity to ensure effectiveness and sustainability for the BMoC strategy. A key strategy in achieving the desired outcome is to build on efforts that are already underway in the BHC Site, in other neighborhoods, and within the citys various public systems. The Program Assistant's role is to provide administrative, programmatic, and research support services to the Senior Associate of the Fresno BMoC Project. The Program Assistant is part of the Administrative and Program Support Team at PolicyLink and reports to the Deputy Director and Senior Associate. Working collaboratively with other PolicyLink team members, the Program Assistant will play a supportive role in the following project activities: Support the development of a unified assessment document that proposes a clear direction for BMOC policy work in Fresno that is directly linked to the BHC Fresno Logic Model and Plan. Support the facilitation of collaborative planning among BMoC Advisory Committee members and partners to develop a draft BMoC Campaign Strategy. This collaborative planning process will include:

A. Support the development and management of Work Groups charged with developing desired outcomes for BMoC in health and safety, K-12 education and beyond, and community development and economic opportunity; and strategies to achieve these. The policy and

systems change proposals developed by these Work Groups will form the basis of the Draft Plan the BMoC Advisory Committee will review and adopt. B. Support the coordination, planning and facilitation of a two-day retreat to review, strengthen, and adopt strategies developed by the Work Groups. The objective of the retreat will be to arrive at a consensus on the objectives, strategies, and steps needed to advance the comprehensive BMoC work. PolicyLink and TCE will work together to identify a set of BMoC partners that will be invited to provide strategic advice and feedback on the proposal. Support the planning and coordination of a series of training and capacity-building activities needed to build a permanent local organizational vehicle to lead and sustain the BMoC work plan for the long haul. These activities will include: facilitating collaborative meetings; establishing collaborative governance models; advancing equity-based policy/systems change strategies; effective communications strategies; organizational advocacy campaign models. Work with the PolicyLink BMoC Team to facilitate the Fresno BMoC leaderships active and mutually beneficial participation in the statewide BMoC Network.

S/he will have considerable responsibility for coordinating her or his work with the rest of the Operations Team and, through the Director of Human Resources and Administration, with that of other assistants. This position is best suited to someone dedicated to working in the Fresno region on BHC and BMoC issues with a variety of different stakeholders while being able to take and balance direction from multiple supervisors. Characteristic Duties Provide administrative support, and light technical support, to assigned supervisors. Track, coordinate, adjust, and manage the very full and fluid schedule of Senior Associate, including internal and external meetings, appointments, calls, deadlines, and travel. Prepare agendas, correspondence, emails, power point presentations, etc. Organize and maintain electronic information systems and paper files. Assist with presentations, research, and production of reports, training materials, policy briefs, and convening materials. Collaborate with other members of the administrative team. Anticipate and assist in resolving situations without continuous guidance. Take notes, write correspondence, and conduct fact-finding, information gathering, and required follow-up (including survey and interview tasks). Work with the Senior Program Associate on publications and assist with updating web-based materials (proofing, editing, formatting, securing images). Contribute Fresno-specific website content current for the BMoC site, and assist staff with continuous updating of web-based materials. Assist with general administrative work and telephones (as needed). Update and maintain databases of contacts, research materials, and project files. Assist with graphic production of files. Assist with developing contracts and submitting expenses and invoices on Fresno BMoC expenses. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Abilities Minimum three years of related experience and a bachelors degree preferred. Excellent communications skillsboth verbal and writtenand comfort working with a diverse group of colleagues, partners, and constituents. Demonstrated ability and capacity to proofread and produce high quality documents in a timely manner. Tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and discretion. Significant knowledge of standard office computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and standard office equipment, including multiple line telephone systems. Knowledge of Internet, graphic, and database applications desirable. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, as part of a team or independently. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. She or he must be able to maintain concentrated focus and must also demonstrate superior project management skills. Timely completion of all tasks will be of paramount importance.
