Anindependentlyadjustableglobalaudiodelayisassignedtoeachinputtoensurethat
soundandpictureareperfectlysynchronizedduringdigitalcinemapresentations.
Differentdelayscanbeassignedtodifferentinputs,providingflexibilityforalternative
contentsources,whichoftenrequiredifferentdelays.
TheCP750iscompatiblewithexistingtheatreautomationsystemsandASCIIcommand
strings.Itsabilitytohandlemultipleformatsandfutureupgradesmakeitanessentialtool
foranevolvingdigitalcinemamarket.
Installationissimplifiedbybuiltintestinstrumentationthatincludesarealtimeanalyzer
andsignalgeneratorsforpinknoise,sweeptones,tones,andaphasecheckthumper.

CalibrationsettingsforoneunitcanbestoredonaPC,and,ifdesired,transferreddirectly
toanotherCP750,minimizingtheneedforadditionalcalibrationafterrepairs.As

XLRconnectors.Thetypicalmaximumtransmissiondistanceis100meters(328feet).
AES3idusesanunbalancedconnection(onesignalconductorplusshield)witha
characteristicinputimpedanceof75,peaktopeaksignallevelof1V,andBNC(push
andtwist)connectors.Thetypicalmaximumtransmissiondistanceis1,000meters(3,280
feet).
ProfessionaldigitalaudioequipmenttypicallyusestheAES/EBUmethodbecause
balancedoperationyieldssuperiornoiseimmunity,asitdoeswithanalogaudiosignals,
andbecauseXLRconnectorsarethestandardonanalogprofessionalaudioequipment.

Consumer Interface Standards for Digital Audio


TheconsumerinterfacestandardfordigitalaudiotransmissionisS/PDIF(IEC61937).
S/PDIFusescoaxialunbalancedconnections(onesignalconductorplusshield)witha
characteristicinputimpedanceof75withRCA(phono)connectors,orafiberopticcable
link.Theunbalancedcoaxialconnectionhasapeaktopeaksignallevelof0.5V.The
typicalmaximumtransmissiondistanceis10meters(33feet).AlthoughS/PDIFspecific
cableswithsuitableconnectorscanbepurchased,youcanalsoobtaingoodresultsusing
highquality75videocablewiththeappropriateconnectorsand/oradapters.

2.2.2

Cable Issues
Evenindigitalaudio,noisefreesignalsareveryimportant.Thecableusedfordigital
signalsisspecificallydesignedforsuchuse,althoughitlooksthesameasthecableused
foranalogaudioorvideosignals.Anyprofessionalaudioequipmentorbroadcastsupply
companycanprovide110cablewithconnectors(orwithout,ifyoudliketoterminate
themyourself)forAES/EBUconnections,andhighquality75videocableswithBNC
connectorsforAES3idconnections.Useofcablesorconnectorsnotdesignedfordigital
transmissionorwithincorrectimpedancecompromisestheintegrityofthebitstream.This
canresultinunreliablehardwareinterconnections,especiallywithlongcableruns.

2.2.3

Multiple Sources: Conversion Between Interface Standards


AlthoughsomedetailsofthebitstreamsusedintheAESandS/PDIFstandardsare
different,theaudioinformationisexactlythesame.Asaresult,mostaudioequipment
acceptseitherstandardwithnoneedtoconvertthebitstreamitself;thisisthecasewiththe
CP750.However,ifyouintendtoconnectsourcesacrossdifferenttypesofdigitalaudio
inputs,donotattempttoconvertadigitalinterfacetypebydirectlywiringanXLR
connectortoaBNCorRCAplug.Thiscausesanimpedancemismatchandsignal
reflections,resultingindigitalwaveformdegradation.Thismayappeartowork,butthe
resultsareunreliableanddropoutsoccur.
ForconversionbetweentheAES3idandS/PDIFformats,youcanusehighquality
RCAtoBNCadaptersbecausethecableandimpedanceareboththesame(75).
ForconversionbetweentheAES/EBUandAES3idorAES/EBUandS/PDIFformats,a
simpleandeconomicalmethodusesinlinetransformers.Thesedevicesperformthe
necessaryimpedanceandbalanced/unbalancedconversion.Table 21showssome
examplesofsuitableadapters.TheunbalancedconnectorintheseexamplesisBNC.
YoucanaddBNCtoRCAadaptersforconnectingtoconsumerS/PDIFconnections.The

Beginwithzerocutandobservetheworstpeakwithinthespectrum.AdjusttheCenter
slideruntilthefrequencymatchesthepeak,andthenadjusttheCuttoflattenthatregion.
AdjusttheQ(width)andCut,untilthesmoothestresponseisachieved.
Equalizationfacilitiesforthesubwooferchannelaredifferentthanfortheotherchannels.
Theprocessinthismanualisdesignedtocorrecttheprincipalroomresonanceinthe
operatingrangeofthesubwoofer.Thesubwooferequalizerisacutonlyfilter,with
adjustablecenterfrequency(25to125Hz),Q(centerwidth,selectableamongfourvalues),
andamountofcut(0to12dB).
Afterallthefullrangechannelshavebeenequalized,followthesesteps:
