30 Knights of the Altar Installed at Santuario

Thirty young boys between the ages of 8 and 18 were installed into the newly named ministry of the Santuario, the Knights of the Altar (KOA), formerly known as altar servers or sacristans, on April 21 during the 6:30am mass. Unlike other ministries whose installation consists only of making an oath of commitment of new members and recommitment of old, the KOA rites included an Investiture, a formal wearing of the white alb over a black soutane. After the mass presided by Fr. Roland for m ation and prayer help the young men achieve maturity in Christs love. Bro. Clint Sanz, KOA adviser, said that the altar knights are expected to serve in the Eucharistic celebration and other liturgical services. This presupposes knowledge about parts of the mass as well as the items used during the mass and their significance to the ceremony. In short, they are veritable assistants to the priest especially at mass (Continue to pg. 2) heard of the tuli from a neighbor, said Gerry who is a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo and living proof that ecumenism is alive at the Santuario. the young knights, not unlike what male preteens in almost all cultures undergo: the rites of passage experienced before becoming a new man, except that in their case, it was a journey of maturity where

Summertime is tuli time a time when Filipino boys end the school year, leave behind their pre-teen concerns, line up the health center to get circumcised, and thus `enter manhood. The boys endure physical pain during and after the operation while their parents deal with finances and so, it is good news that they are getting

help from the Santuario de San Vicente de Paul in terms of shorter queues, week-end schedules, and affordable medications. My son will get good care here, smiled Gerry Dominguez on this warm Sunday afternoon of April 22 Earth Day by coincidence and yet fortuitous as their son Ryan, 11, underwent an almostuniversal rite.

I know that Ryan will be fully attended to by doctors who wont feel snacks. She sells them here in the compound but we

KOA membership was not remarkable in the past but interest grew in December with the aggressive recruitment done in time for Simbang Gabi and other Christmas festivities. Before long, younger boys who had seen their elder playmates serving at mass began to enlist for the ministry at the start of 2012. The KOA membership has three levels: juniors who have newly joined the ministry, seniors who have been serving at church services for at least a year but had not undergone a formal investiture. The Sacristan Emeritus refers to college students who serve as role models for the younger members level. Bro. Clint acknowledged the role played by Mr. Nestor Canlas, the first unofficial adviser of the altar servers who helped the altar servers in many ways like finding sponsors for some members uniforms, taking charge of the altar before and after mass and doing other little tasks for the Lord. Young people interested to join the Knights of the Altar ministry may contact Bro. Clint or Noel Supapo, KOA president. - Ching J. Chee Kee

The on-going Adult Christian Formation at the Santuario every Friday, which started last February 10 of this year, has generated interest among participants, mainly coming from the different ministries, to deepen their knowledge, appreciation and practice of Catholic Faith. With the general title, Discovering the Treasures of Our Faith, the last session especially spoke about the need for Christians to cast the nets into the deep. Staying in shallow water is the reason for ones experience of distraction from and destruction of the real meaning and bounty of life. The call to depth and spirituality means taking a journey to interiority where one finds the core of ones being and identity as having been created in the image and likeness of God. He

pointed out that its biblical meaning is to be a steward of God in the whole of His creation. Becoming a good steward starts with the recognition that life is full of Gods blessings. Such realization leads one to develop, nurture and use these gifts according to Gods purpose so that one could fully share him/ herself as gifts to others in love. -Fr. Roland A. Tuazon,CM

Lay Servers Ministry Renews Commitment

Members of the Ministry of Lay Servers will be formally installed today, April 29, 2012, during the 9:00 am mass. Before their installation, the members attended a

formation session conducted by Ms. Jo Bulalacao, the new Pastoral Ministry coordinator. She introduced the session with a reading of the Parable of the Sower

who went out to sow and the seed fell on the path and birds came and ate it up, some fell on the rocky ground which had little soil, some fell among thorns which choked up the seed and some fell on rich soil and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. The choice of reading was obvious since members were expected to reflect on what type of soil they were and how to translate this in their service and commitment to their work in Santuario.

The VMY Sports Fest Santuario de San Project Director; Mrs. Flor would help us to achieve
Vicente de Paul. It was kicked off by a mini-jog around the St. Vincent compound and taking of sportsmanship oaths by all who participated. The opening prayer was led by Mr. Arjay Casanova, a new member of the VMY. The ministry was divided into 2 teams, the Blue and the Red teams. The Blue Team was captained by Mr. Jolo Maniquis and Ms. Venus Velasquez while the Red Team was led by Mr. Patrick Villegas and Ms. Yza de Lara, all officers of the ministry. The event was also graced by the presence of some guests, namely Fr. Roland A. Tuazon, CM, de Lara, Secretary of the Liturgical Committee; Bro. Clint Sanz of the Lay Ministers; and Bro. Ariel Rotoni, who helped facilitate the organization when it was beginning in late 2010. The girls played volleyball while the boys played basketball in the morning, with Red winning the volleyball game and Blue winning the basketball competition. In the afternoon, Pinoy games like Patintero and Agawan Base and foreign games like Dodgeball and Dragons Tail were showcased. The Red Team became the overall champion, but all knew that it was only a bonus to what we all had really won: unity and teamwork. Bro. Ariel Rotoni recapped the games

and and said that unity was what success in all our endeavors, and that it would fuel more our service to God. Ms. Cassandra Mae Casanova led the final prayer for the event. Overall, the objectives of fun, unity and sportsmanship were ultimately accomplished by the whole group by the end of the event. As we reflected deeper into what the event was all about, the realization of our being united as one family to further grow in Christ and each other made all the weariness worth our whiles. For sharing in each others losses and victories is what matters most, and this will continue to be the direction of the group as we move further in our service to the Lord. tion, including pest and disease management, at the Technology Department of the main office of East-West Seed Company, Inc. in San Rafael, Bulacan (specifically, Km. 54, Cagayan Valley Road). The gracious staff welcomed fellow stall-holders at the kapihan as well as walk-in `students such as Manny Arce, who expressed delight in finally locating Aani after hearing praises about it. I am into construction but I am seriously considering retiring to farm in my hometown in Isabela, Arce said. This is why I appreciate the attractive brochures given to us by East-West. I see them as reference materials in the near future.

To not only win the competition, but to win each other. Those were the moving words of Fr. Aani Week-end Market Finds a Home

Aani is a special advocacy of the Santuario de San Vicente de Paul for practitioners of organic farming, small-scale food production and sustainable livelihood. We are doing this in partnership with AANI, explains Fr. Rolando Tuazon, Shrine Administrator and Project Director. Fr. Tuazon has been known to consult the cooks about purchasing the unsold produce of the indigenous peoples who come down the mountains of Rizal. Do we want them to go home empty-handed late afternoon? he asks rhetorically. He has also ensured that the week-end market has a teaching function via a regular kapihan. On the First Sunday of Easter Divine Mercy Sunday, April 15 Sanctuario welcomed EastWest Seed Philippines, pioneer in integrated seed growing since 1982 and with sister companies in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, India and China. East-West sales agents and staff took turns discussing vegetables and fruits grown from varieties of seeds proven to be high yielding in Philippine climate, even under stressful conditions. East-West has seeds for new strains of tomatoes, onions, ampalaya, upo, patola, pechay, kangkong, sweet and hot pepper, cucumber, cauliflower, lettuce, snap beans, cabbage, okra, legumes and radishes There are also seeds of new varieties of papaya, watermelons and flowers. Sales services and tech-

nical support based on practical experience cover the entire island of Luzon, plus Mindoro and Bicol. East-West has product technologies like the Hortanova Greenhouse, which provides a safe, dependable and long-lasting environment for crops, the drip technology which gives proper management of water and fertilizer application; and a range of seedling trays which ensure the development of healthy seedlings. There is a four-day training course about offseason vegetable produc-
