Introduction
SBE helps students to understand about a small business. Identifying all element which effect on the business such as internal and external factors. In assignment 1, I am one of the consultants of Bright Ideas Management Consultancy Services. As a management consultant, I main role is to offer consultant service for SOLE PROPREITORSHIP business operating in Vietnam. The small business is a enterprise, and its name is Namtuan. Its is an store which collects coffee from the farmer and sells to the company.

Task 1a. Describe the profile of the small business which includes component of the business, objectives, internal and external factors affecting business performance, their constraints and restrictions. Component of the enterprise: History The small business is a private enterprise, which was opened in 2000. At that time, the enterprise was very small, and it was just like a shop. The owner is a business woman, and she borrowed money from the bank in order to expanded the business. In 2002, the business became a reseller, its name was Nam Tuan. She cooperated with other reseller in the location in order to collect the information and exist. From 2002 to 2006, she was going to enter in to the distribution channel of a company. The business was very successful at that time and she earned a lot of profits. However, because of the effects of the Global crisis in 2006, there were many resellers, which were bankrupt and the business was also effected. At that time, customers did not trust on any resellers, thus she had to found out the way to take customers back. Although she made a big loss in 2006, she built a big store to show to the customers that the business Nature The business is for collecting the raw material, then it distributes to the company, and the company produce raw material to coffee. Here when the farmers collect coffee from the tree, they sell to the resellers, then resellers sell to the enterprises, and the enterprise sell the agency, and the agency transport to the company. The disadvantage is that they just focus on one site, and there are many enterprise else in the location, thus it is high competitive. Management team Because it is a family business and then improved to the private enterprise, thus its management team is a couple. The manager is the wife, and the husband

company, thus they are suppliers. We can see that, the enterprise is not in the distribution channel, which deliver product to the customers. It is in the channel, which provides material for the company. Sometime, the farmers have not sold their coffee yet. They just want the enterprise keep their coffee, and they will sell at any time they want. Characteristic of target market Target marketing involves narrowing down potential users of your products or services by developing a profile of a likely consumer.1 In the case of the

Current sales and marketing strategies The current sales: The business is for collecting coffee from the farmers and then sells to the company. Thus, the sales of the enterprise are equal to the coffee they collected from the farmers. For example, there are 40 farmers, and each of them sells 1 ton coffee for the enterprise, thus the total is 40 tons. Here the current sales of the enterprise are 40 tons, when they sell coffee to the company. The marketing strategies:

In general, all customers want to sell coffee with higher price, because they will have more money. Thus, the common strategies of all enterprises in the location is that they increase the price as much as possible. However, in 2006 and 2009, because of the crisis, there is a disadvantage, when a enterprise want to buy higher price than another. In the case, NamTuan focuses on the trust of customers. It means that they focus on the quality of the service. For example, when a customer sells a big amount of coffee,

they still can pay enough money on time. In addition, they lend customers money in order to show that, its finance is very The business objectives The objective about the customer satisfaction: in order to get customer satisfaction, they have to pride more benefits to the customers. They can buy coffee with higher price than others, or they can lend customers amount of money to increase customer loyalty. In addition, they can process with professionally to make customers feel that there is no cheating in the trading. There are two kind of customer satisfaction: during the sales and after sales. During the sales, we need to ensure the correct balance for the customer is not reduced profits. For example, the price of coffee is 15,000 VND/Kg, and they customer sell us 1020Kg. If we balance just 1000Kg for them, that means the customer losses 300,000VND. On the other hand, if we balance 1030Kg for them, then the customer get more than 150,000VND, they will feel very happy. With Namtuan, when they focus on how care about the employees, and the salaries for employees, which is lower 5% than others. The advantage is that Namtuan can choose employees who less care about money and focus on the working environment.

Objectives about cutting pollution: in the past, the enterprise has a production line: collecting fresh coffee, and then dried, and cut into the coffee drunk people, then transfer to the company to make coffee powder. However, the production line Internal factors Resources The first resource is the labor. The most number of employees is from the countryside, and some is from the manager hometown. With the executive officer, he/she is usually the manager relative, because the executive officer help the manager to collect the data and control the employees. With the employees, if they are unknown, there will be the risk of life for the manager and her family. With the executive officer, if he/she is a stranger, how can the manager believe in him/her to support the business. For example, the executive can cooperate with the employees to steal coffee from the store. The second factor is technology. The manager develops the business from very small shop to one of the biggest enterprise in the location with out any technology, and she is old now. Therefore, she scare using the computer,

creating the noise, smoke and dust, it has much impact people. Therefore, we encourage customers to the processing of coffee at home, then bring to the business. Furthermore, there is also the target for every business in this area. she think that if there is any mistake in taping or virus in computer, the business will face with the big risk. From that, she does not refer to use the computer at all, and she just uses note-books to keep the data. It can be the weakness of the business, because she will process data slowly and less effectively. Moreover, it is difficult for her to assess the information of the coffee market in the internet. When there is less information about the market, there is less chance to forecast the price exactly. Then the business has less chance to make profits. The third factor is building, because the business has a small building than its capability. It means that the store can keep 400 tons where as the customers send coffee to the store 1000 tons per year. When there is no place to keep, the enterprise has to depend on others. They send the mount of coffee to another stores, let say it is 600 tons. If the store keeps 600 tons of coffee, which goes

bankrupt, it will be a very big of risk for Namtuan. Moreover, it is a season business, thus when the season coming, there will be very much coffee in the market. Sometimes, another stores are full too, so the enterprise has to keep coffee in its yard. Another way is that they can sell 600 tons to the company. However, if the price increases, the enterprise will be loss. For example, the customer send to the store 1000 tons, and the store sells 600 tons to the company with 15,000VND/kg. When the customer needs money and they sell the mount of coffee with price is for 16,000VND/Kg. It means that the enterprise loss 1,000VND/Kg, and with 600 tons,

Policies and procedure Because transporting coffee by manually is a heavy working, the health of employees is very important. The managers set a policy as no dinking with out permission. It is very effective, because a drunk employees cannot bring an bag of coffee 80Kg. Moreover, there is less drink, the employees are more conscious. They will have better behaviors with customers and working more effectively, and it is safer to the manager and her family.

There are 5-6 workers in the store, and the managers tent to have meals with the employees every day. Thus they have to pay land tax, business tax, transport tax. Although there are 3 main taxes which Namtuan must pay, the government supports Namtuan product by reducing the percentage of each tax compare to other product and give them a comfortable policy when they need to explore their good. Foreign trade regulation: it helps the government to control the economics inside the country. The government can decide the quantity of import and export,

The competition in Vietnam is fair and is under restric rule so that there are almost no unethical trick in the market. When the government has money, they can invest in building the infrastructure to promote the economics. The tax can be taken from income of the company and customers, thus it has an effect on the market. If the tax is too high, the enterprise profit will be cut and it can be negative to the whole company. There fore, the trading in the market of that company will go down strongly. If the tax is too low, the government does not have enough money to use in security, facilities as well as to control economic rates. In Vietnam, the government focuses on some kind of taxes such as VAC, income tax, etc. The

Beside, it helps old people not to worry when they retired, because they still have income whether they work or not. It increase the consuming of unemployed, the market will have more trading. In Vietnam, we have salary for retired people, but we do not have social welfare for the unemployed younger. The reason is that Vietnam is a developing country, thus we can not support for these unemployed because we do not have much money. However, the government supports to company or group who can provide works for people and also giving some money to help people who have less than 300.000VND/month. Economic factor Business cycle: it makes the company return to product, which was in the past. It reduces product improvement, because people do not create new features and benefits to supply customer satisfaction. On the other hand, it increases the purchasing, because people have more choice in consuming.

From 2003 to 2009, GDP of Vietnam increase rapidly from 6% to 8.5% of rate. There fore, the supply is more than demand that means the company produces whereas there are less people buy product. Accordingly, there are many loss-marking enterprises. The economics of Vietnam increases, and there are a lot of foreign investors want to business in Vietnam. However, there are many Vietnam company bankrupts, because there are more supply than demand. As a result, the economics of

If these companies do not invest, the import, export, purchasing in Vietnam are aspect. If the rate of borrowing money is too high, the company will find it hard to pay back and they are

Attitude work and leisure: it has changed from the past to present. Now people want to work in cities and have leisure in the countryside. There fore, the market will expand to the countryside to support these people demand. It is a chance for enterprise, which provide service. When the life style changes, the enterprise needs to apply new technology for new feature and benefits. Moreover, when it changes, the company needs to identify suitable broad product line and segmentation, because their behavior can change. The big change now is the higher education. There fore, the enterpise should persuade people about their product by showing series of machines or provide what information they need.

Level of education: when people education is higher, their knowledge about business is better. There fore, they need information about the company clearly, when they buy product. The company has to present their background in the public to make customer believe in them. Moreover, when people has high education, the company has employees with high qualification, thus they will work effectively. Moreover, these people usually have income higher than other who has low education. There fore, if people have high education, the purchasing in the market will increase. Technological factor New discoveries/ development: it makes product has more features and benefits. It is easy to promote by using the internet, modern vehicle, etc. enterprise can supply customer

satisfaction with facilities. It helps people to find out new market by using new technology. With company its self; technology helps the leader control his company easily by using computers and the internet. For example, in Namtuan, the enterprise uses conveyor, thus it is good for the workers, because they use less

energy to transport the coffee. In addition, by the developing of internet and informational system, the company can get the information about the market fastly. Speed of technological transfer: when technological transfer, the market changes. Now the speed of technological transfer is fast, thus the company has to apply new technology to compete in the market changing. It makes the qualification of employees and customer increase to be suitable with the new market and the new technology. Beside, the parliament of many countries is cooperating with other to protect the environment. It forbids the enterprise rejecting the toxic waste into the environment. It takes the enterprise a lot of money to waste disposal. However, when the enterprise

When customers send a lot of coffee to the store, and they still use the old machine to balance the coffee, it takes time and sometime it make a traffic jam in the central of the area. Then the police come, and the enterprise gets another problem. The fourth weakness is the security. Because it is a private enterprise, thus it has manager, officer and workers. The workers are also the force protection for the enterprise. When the people need money and they tent to be steal coffee from the store, there will be no security for the store. The opportunities The first opportunity is that customers tents to keep their coffee at home. Thus

the enterprise may no more face with the remain coffee. When there is less coffee in the store, the works will difficultly steal coffee. The second opportunity is the crisis. Because there are too many enterprise and company bankrupt, thus the market is more customers. The enterprise has less competitors, and there will be more customers who go to the business. Thee third opportunity is the inflation. The value of money is reduce, it means the value of coffee is increase. From that if the store can keep more coffee, they can earn more profits from the inflation. Threats The first threat is that some of the manager skills become obsolete and she is not ready for technology development. For example, if she still keep data by note book, she has to work until 2.am every day. Then risk of health increase, the effective of management can be reduced. Sometime, because she is tired, she calculates wrongly or mistake in trading, she can make a big loss. The second threat is the fierce competition. The reason is that when the customer keeps their coffee at home, and in order to safe money for transportation,

they will send coffee in a group. It means that the leader of the group can be the potential small business, and they can become its competitors in the future. The third threat is the pressures on market fluctuations. Sometimes, the price of coffee is independent with other market. It go down continuously, and the customer sells more and more coffee. With the enterprise, when the customer sells the coffee, and the following day the enterprise sells with the lower price, they

can make loss easily. For example, the price of coffee is 15,000VND and goes down. The customer sells 1 ton of coffee with 15,000VND/Kg, and the enterprise sells the coffee in the following day with price 14,800VND/Kg. In the case, many enterprises try to predict and sells coffee before customer sells. However, if the trend of price stops, they can face with a big problem.
