Reading and Writing

We are continuing to practice Daily 5 to help us become more independent readers. We will continue to work on building stamina in all areas of the Daily 5! We will begin to once again add words to our word wall this month. Please continue to help your child practice the SAY, SPELL, SAY method for these words at home. I will be posting May words on the Reading page of the blog. A paper copy will also be sent home early this month. Throughout May we will read the anthology story titled, Pepita Talks Twice. We will practice finding solutions while we read. We will continue to learn more about characters, setting, and plot. Students will practice writing informational passages about organizing a picnic. Writing pieces will be published on Kidblog. Check out this link and leave us some comments!

Science and Social Studies

This month we will learn about landforms. Students will learn the definition of landforms as well as different types of landforms. We will use the Planet Earth series to help us get a better understanding of mountains and plains around the world! Students will soon complete an organizer with important landform vocabulary. Please help your child learn this vocabulary by practicing with the organizer at home!

Thank You!
This will be the final newsletter of the year. Id like to send a sincere thank-you for allowing me to spend this year with your children. I hope that Ive shared a love for learning with each of them and also prepared them well for fourth grade. This group has a special place in my heart. As the end of the year approaches, Im realizing just how much I will truly miss them. Best wishes to each of you and your families!

Math
This month in math we will study algebra and data analysis. Students will practice solving equations and identifying variables. The class will also read and analyze bar graphs, tally charts, etc. Dont forget to visit the blog for links to practice math skills.
