Unit Name: US Presidents Subject: History Grade Level: 3rd Learning Outcomes: Subject Area - 8: History Standard Area - 8.3: United States History 1: 8.3.3.A Identify and describe the social, political, cultural, and economic contributions of individuals and groups in United States history. 2: 8.3.4.B Locate historical documents, artifacts, and places critical to United States history. 3: 8.3.5.B Illustrate concepts and knowledge of historical documents, artifacts, and places critical to United States history. 4: 8.3.3.C Identify and describe how continuity and change have impacted U.S. history. Outcomes Source: Pennsylvania Department of Education Academic Standards, 3rd Grade, History Activity 6 Description/Rationale: To take an image of your President that you used earlier in your timeline project and alter it with cool graphical changes to be a header for your web blog. To create the text for your web blog that will host all of the projects that the student has created so far. This is the culminating project that students have been saving their html codes in their Evernote accounts for. Each individual students web blog will be hosted together on one main web blog page so the teacher can have control over each individual blog. Instructional/Behavioral Objectives: 1. To create a text for an interactive web blog of all previous activities. 2. To alter an image of your chosen President to add as a header in your blog. 3. Follow instructions to save information that will be used at the end of the unit. Procedures: Have students use an image they saved from their timeline projects and alter the photo in a fun way to be used as the header on the web blog that they will be creating. The website to create the altered picture is http://www.befunky.com. The student will upload the original picture to the site and can use the free tools to manipulate the image. Once they are done manipulating the image they will save the

image to their desktop and upload to their Evernote account for use in creating their web blog. Each student will create a Weebly web blog page dedicated to their chosen President. The web blog will host all of the information that the students have created throughout the unit to display about their subject. Each web blog will be hosted and maintained by the teacher on a main class blog page. Once the students create their web blog image and text the teacher will go over how to create pages and add the html codes or images that the students have been saving to their Evernote accounts.

The students will then add each of the six activities they created to their web blog and the teacher will publish the main page to the internet.
