PHILOSOPHY OF MAN/SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

A. Explain/clarify the HIERARCHY OF IDEAS and how it helps in the better understanding

of MAN-his nature, his traits-and how he relates to other BEINGS. Ideas are created by integrating previous ideas and sensory input. Due to this dependency of ideas on previous ideas or sensory input, we know that knowledge is hierarchical. Every higher level concept is based on lower level information. At the root of all of this, of course, is perception. The very first concepts are derived directly from perceptions, via reason. Future concepts can then use the first concepts as part of their base, but the foundation is always there. The understanding of how a particular concept is tied to lower level concepts or sensory input is useful. It allows a more explicit understanding of the concept. Without knowledge of the hierarchy, one is left with only a vague notion of the meaning of a term. Since we learn some concepts from others, we may only have an ambiguous idea of what the term means. This "notion" is not really a concept. It is a place holder for a concept. One can understand enough about the concept to differentiate it from other concepts one is aware of, while still not grasping exactly what it refers to. Without an understanding of one's hierarchy of knowledge, it is possible to lose sight of some features of a concept. This seems to happen frequently in philosophy. This is how people can claim that they don't exist, or that reality doesn't. Since it is possible to ignore the foundation of an idea, it is possible to use it in a way that specifically contradicts the foundation. An example of this nonsense is people 'proving' that logic doesn't exist, when the concept 'proof' is derived from the concept logic.

B. Delineate your thoughts regarding each of the following topic/questions:

1. Do you agree with the statement that philosophy raises the quality of mans life? Why?

Yes, Philosophy is a necessary product of man's rational mind. To live, man must gain knowledge of the world. To understand the world, man must form

conclusions about its very nature. For instance, to gain knowledge of particular objects, man must recognize that objects have identity. He must recognize that conclusions are possible because the world does exist, and exists in a particular way.

2. What do you say of the values of Filipinos today in general? Filipino values system as of today for me is the best values compared to other 2Asian countries and better than the west. But sometimes it depends upon the situation. Like for example the Pakikisama. It depends upon whom you go with and what type of activities youre doing with others. For the so called Inner Depth of Gratitude, this goes with what the Bible said that, What you sow you shall reap and the golden rule which states, Do unto others what you like others will do unto you. Actually that is not to be called Utang na Loob Pilipino Value but you are just doing well to the person who has done something good to you. For shyness or shy it depends upon the situation in which you should be shy or not. Why you should be shy if its worth not to be. A person should be bold if it is required for the situation and be shy if the time warrants it. Bahala na in many instances gives Filipinos the courage and boldness to do extra ordinary things that is impossible to be done in a natural way. Filipinos strong faith and belief in God increases his / her will power and would trust and rely upon the Almighty saying,Bahala na ang Dios. 3. What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom for me is to being able to do and say whatever that you want. Freedom is the basis what is right that an individual can be exercise. It should be legally and morally based as mentioned on human laws and not violating natural laws.

4. How do Filipino in general look upon freedom?

Filipinos generally look freedom as their basis of what they act. Legally many Filipinos reasoned that their actions are based in their freedom to execute but few understand what really freedom was. Really freedom is an act that theres no negative implication or destroys the humanity, living organisms, and/or useful things created by God.

5. Are Filipinos a freedom-loving people? Cite specific examples to support your answer?

Filipinos actually is not a freedom loving people based on the culture that they have. It is in our heart and mind to sacrifice what are the things based on the cultural norms over what are the best thing based on what is in the logic.

6. How can man be said to be free if he is subject to and bound by law? Explain the possible meaning of law from the cultural, moral and religious levels of consciousness. Criticize the view that law destroy or restricts human freedom.

Law is simply a proven theory that guides certain phenomena. In this aspect human law must varies the laws of God which are supposed the basis of all laws created by different types of government by now. For what life is the gift of God if there is no law. Matter itself within its components and properties governed by laws of what physical phenomenon present in it. Religious level of consciousness is must to stand and make a culture straight forward to morality dimension that result positive laws to be living by an individual. Thus, human

culture is a fruit of law, which is one of the environmental factor conceptualize to result moral dimension as practiced by the group of people.

7. What are your ideas and feelings on death? My idea of what happens after death is our release from the restraints of a physical body and singular ego. Like a return home to the core of what makes up existence, reality, emotion, thought, creation, destruction. Whatever that may be is simply not nearly definable by man.

I think we are here simply to just live. No divine purpose like saving a life, etc. Just live and experience as much as we can, procreate to continue the cycle, and then die. Death is part of cycle and inevitable. No use fearing something that is certain to come.

8. Are you aware of the moral dimension of the environment problems in the Philippines? What are your thoughts on the matter?

Essentially its not too much of awareness but as this question aroused my imagination on the reality. Human life depends on environment status thus man should care the environment to expect in return of healthy peaceful life. Nothing is the best when nature is ill. Environment imbalances can cause millions of death at a very short time. Therefore, those who are factors of climate change and sudden illness of nature are criminals of humanity.

A recent theory called Moral Extensionism argues that human have duties to natural entities, and the rights on which these duties are founded are based on some intrinsically valuable characteristics of the entity.

9. Filipino values are object of research and study by social scientists. Why is a philosophical study of Filipino values necessary? Why can Filipinos not afford to ignore or neglect the moral dimension of their Filipino values?

Filipino values are object to study by social scientists due to conglomerated attitude that we possessed from different ancestral roots based on the history. Misinterpretations of action as bad- negative, or good - positive created by ones norm. Filipino attitude varies on ones norms of judgment and understanding to that culture aligning towards morality. Morality basis of humane acts, we

Filipinos are much defensive in our beliefs as we compare with other ethnicity that is why we cannot easily neglect or ignore it.

Filipino values spring from our peculiar way of viewing life-its origin, its meaning, and its purpose. Foremost among our values is Pananalig sa Maykapal. The Filipino puts his trust entirely in Gods hand.

10. Does moral conscience differ from right reason as the norm of human morality? Should the individual always follow his conscience?

Moral consciences not differ in human morality in all aspects due to parallelism of hierarchy of ideas. According to philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, Anaxemenes

they states that human morality aligns with moral conscience in the sense that human based on its level of knowledge about what is wrong and/or what is right. The connectivist philosophers believe that brains and hearth functions differently but still connected not with its position as the basis to control. Other says heart should be controlled by the brain and it is true because the brain controls everything that conscience is not on the hearth but its on the brain. Yes, every individual should follow his conscience because the level of moral conscience depends on the knowledge of an individual about virtues, core moral values, and the most important are the laws of God. Therefore, even how tough, strong, and terror the man is it has the time that he felt a conscience. Unless, a certain living is man with its outer physical appearance but devil on his mind and soul.
