Example of How to Use Bursting feature in BI Publisher for EnterpriseOne

Abstract: This document demonstrates how to use BI Publisher for EnterpriseOne to burst and send reports to data driven emails associated to address book numbers. Assumptions: This document assumes that BI Publisher for EnterpriseOne is properly configured and functional. If you haven't yet validated it, see Knowledge Document 661001.1 (E1: XMLP: Validating XMLP Phase 2 with 8.97 Has Been Successfully Applied) in Metalink3. Content: With the purpose of testing, we will use standard report R014021|XJDE0001. This report produces mailing labels based on Address Number records. First, identify or setup at least two address book numbers with one associated email address. Refer to Knowledge Document 626447.1 (E1: WRKFLW: Setup External Mail for the EnterpriseOne Software) for more information. Note that currently BI Publisher engine will only read the first email address associated to the first Who's Who record of to a given address book number. In addition, this email address must be flagged as primary, i.e.: message indicator field set to '01' (primary electronic address). In this example I have users John Doe and Jane Doe, address book numbers 58464 and 58472 respectively. Here are their email addresses

Next I ran P95600 and created a new XML Publisher Object using a blank template (empty .RTF file) to obtain a sample XML Output that can be used to create a useful template. The XML Publisher object definition:

I then created a Report Definition and added the template to it. Report Definition: association (R014021|XJDE0001) and template:

Report Definition: language and output

Report Definition: Bursting and Delivery. Note we will NOT burst the report at this time and I'm only interested in obtaining the Report Definition Source (XML output) to gather the Burst Field, the address book number field and build a template:

Next I submitted R014021|XJDE0001 with data selection set to the two test address book numbers I identified earlier:

This produced the following XML Output where I identified the respective bursting and address book fields:

I also built the template "TEMPLATE_R014021.rtf" (attached).

The next step is to upload this template to the XML Publisher Object (P95600) and then modify the Burst and Delivery options of the Report Definition (P95620):

Upon running this report Definition two outputs were created and delivered to the email address associated to the each address book numbers found in the report:

Here are the respective contents. Output emailed to jon.doe@company.com:
