Luttrell, CPA Financial Consultant the Glyconutritional Plant Polysaccrides Edition Robert B. Leckie, ESQ. Business Development Consultant The Restructuring Body Composition book was published in March 2008 reporting the results Shirlie Kaats of what is now a 14-year Longitudinal Trial of Mannatech’s Glyconutritional Plant Secretary, Director Polysaccrides. Mannatech initially provided the following directions to our research team: Patricia L. Keith 1. The studies needed to provide an on-going evaluation of the safety and Treasurer efficacy of the Company’s glyconutrients Michael E. Gale 2. All research should be third-party independent studies. None of the research Operations Manager team nor their relatives or employees could enroll as a Mannatech Associate or benefit from product sales other than funding provided for research. Jimmie Mollenkopf Assistant Operations Manager 3. Health and Medical Research should continue to conduct a sufficient number of studies with other companies, including competitive companies, to Monika Dapilmoto support its independent status. Research Coordinator and Nutritionist 4. The studies should measure “structure & function” changes only and be devoid of medical and disease claims, or anything that could be construed as Clinical Advisory Board: diagnosing, treating, curing or preventing disease. Harry A. Croft, MD 5. Short-term results should be provided either as technical reports, as Psychiatry and Clinical Research published articles or as contents in a book summarizing the findings. Larry K. Parker, MD Although in the initial two years Mannatech, Inc. provided some of the funding for the Obstetrics and Gynecology trials, it soon became apparent that an increasing number of associates wanted to participate in William Squires, PhD the trials by paying for the DEXA and blood tests themselves to monitor their own progress Professor of Biology while taking the product. In essence, they were conducting their own personal “due diligence” Texas Lutheran University by tracking changes in biomarkers of optimal health using FDA-approved state-of-the-art Dennis Pullin, MS technology. The response was so enthusiastic that virtually all of the thousands of DEXA and Chief Operating Officer blood tests in the database were paid for by the associates with virtually no involvement from Washington Hospital Center Washington, DC. Mannatech, Inc., thereby enhancing Mannatech’s “third-party” relationship with the research. We have now completing our 14th year of the trials and have accumulated over 8,000 John Wise, PhD DEXA and blood tests from people taking Mannatech’s supplements. I’m often asked for a Natural Alternatives International Microbiology, Biochemistry “bottom line” describing our findings of our 14 years of research. In responding, I typically limit my remarks to the published findings and state that our studies suggest that taking these Harry G. Preuss, MD glyconutritional plant polysaccharide supplements can: Professor of Medicine Georgetown University 1. Improve bone strength by increasing bone mineral density Reginald McDaniels, MD 2. Aid in the reduction of excess body fat Glyco-science Research 3. Help maintain or increase lean (muscle) mass Fisher Inst for Medical Research 4. Facilitate or maintain healthy cholesterol and blood lipid levels Kristi L. Hobbs, Director 5. Increase self-reported quality of life Alamo City Mercy Foundation 6. Improve immune health as measured by C-reactive Protein (CRP) levels. Nutritional/Spiritual Interventions in Developing Countries In summary, based on measuring the above biomarkers, taking glyconutritional plant Joel Michalek, PhD polysaccharides appears to facilitate improvements in immune health. Professor, Center for Epidemiology/Biostatistics All of the above studies are contained in the Restructuring book and are presented in a University of Texas Health slightly edited version of the originally published article. No changes have been made in the Science Ctr at San Antonio data or in the conclusions drawn from these data. The edits were limited to replacing the Raul Bastarrachea, MD original use of “glyconutrients” with “glyconutritional plant polysaccrides”, a more descriptive Department of Genetics term for the dietary supplements reported in these manuscripts. Changes were also made in the SW Fnd Biomedical Research presentation of the graphics in order to make them more consistent with the style of the illustrations used throughout this book.
