Application Information for International Students for the Academic Year of 2012

n Eligibility for Application


1. Nationality Requirements: Applicants and their both parents should have non-Korean nationality. 2. High School Graduation Requirements: Applicants must graduate from high school by February 28, 2012 (for those who apply for the spring semester of 2012) or by August 31, 2012 (for those who apply for the fall semester of 2012). Students from Japanese high schools can apply for the spring semester if they graduate from their schools by March 31, 2012. Notes: Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are not considered foreigners. Korean-born adoptees of foreign nationality are considered as foreign nationals only if they acquired the foreign nationality before entering elementary school (G1). A Taiwanese applicant with one parent of Taiwanese nationality is classified as an international student for application purposes. 3. Korean Proficiency Requirements: Applicants to the Department of Pre-Medicine, PreDentistry and Nursing must submit the certificate completing and passing level 5 at KLI or Korean Proficiency test score of the level 5 or higher of TOPIK or KLPT (score: 400) or KPE (including Speaking and Writing tests).

n Selection of Departments/Majors for Application


1. Applicants can select two majors. If applicants fail to get admission to the major of their first choice, they will be considered for admission in the major of their second choice. 2. For their first choice, applicants can pick up any major in the list of page #2, and the second choice is limited only to the Global Program of University College, in which the admitted students will have a second chance of selecting their major after a certain period (at least six months) of college education at Yonsei University. 3. Students in the Global Program are not allowed to apply for Underwood International College, the departments in College of Music, Education(except for Sports & Leisure Studies), Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing.

n Evaluation Criteria
1. Yonsei University makes a comprehensive evaluation of each applicant by taking into consideration his or her academic achievements and potential as well as non-academic accomplishments. Transcripts, personal statement, scores of standardized tests (e.g., ,

SAT, AP, GCE-A Level, NCEA, IB, etc.), awards, certificates/licenses, and scores of language proficiency tests are representative elements used for the evaluation of applicants qualifications. 2. Applicants to the College of Music or the Department of Sports & Leisure Studies are required to take a performance test administered by Yonsei University. The result of the performance test will be combined with that of document evaluation for the final decision of admission. n Korean Language Proficiency Test Admitted students except UIC, ASP and TAP MUST take a Korean language proficiency test administered by Yonsei University Korean Language Institute (KLI). They are required to satisfy the following language proficiency conditions before taking regular courses.

Take international students' Level 3 or below After completing Level 4, students can move to Seoul preliminary courses at completed campus and take regular courses at Seoul campus. Incheon Campus 1. Those who do not submit the scores of Korean language proficiency test taken at Yonsei University will automatically be regarded as being below proficiency level 4, and thus will be required to take international students' preliminary courses at Incheon Campus. 2. The following individuals are exempt from the Korean language proficiency test. Those who completed and passed level 5 at KLI. (Certificates issued by other universities Korean language institutes are not valid for the exemption of the test.) Those who reached the level 5 (or above) of TOPIK, KLPT (score: 400), or KPE (Including Speaking and Writing tests).

Regarding Asian Studies Program(ASP) and Techno Art Program(TAP), these programs will newly open from Spring semester in 2012, and the students are to study the entire curriculums in English at Songdo International Campus located in Inchon.

Required Documents (Please submit ORIGINALs, Photocopies with Notarization/Issuers official stamp, or Photocopies after verifying the originals at Office of Admissions. ) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
