NWEA Spring Testing


Next week students will take their last NWEA tests of the school year. Each student has made goals and knows what they need to do to make yearly growth. To prepare for the tests please help your student by encouraging a full nights rest and a healthy breakfast on the morning of each test. Public Speaking Day


The graders of South Canton will be presenting their persuasive speeches and poems on May 25th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. All families are invited to attend our presentation day to enjoy top notch public speaking and brilliant poetry. 6th

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS


Vocabulary and Spelling Wordly wise has continued this week. Students are in charge of 15 words each week for spelling and vocabulary meanings and different ways to use each word. There will not be WW next week. Reading and WritingPublic Speaking Students have been changing their focus this week from writing and analyzing poetry to writing and analyzing different speeches. They are all studying how to not only write a speech, but also how to present one. Next week students will learn how to break down different advertisements.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR

This week students learned about the ancient Aztec

SCIENCE WITH MRS. LEE

culture. They studied who the people were, where they lived and their rituals within their society. Students also had two-three days to work on their big final project. PLEASE make sure to ask your student how their project is going. This next week in class, students will finish up their time in Latin America learning all about the Inca people and culture. Once this has been completed the class will have time to work on their project in order to finish it in time. This will be our last stop in our Journey Across Time and the World!

While scientists have been


working hard to understand waves and sound they have moved on to understand light and the electromagnetic spectrum. Students will complete a light lab next week that will explore the visible light portion of the spectrum as well and work with reflection and refraction.

MATH WITH MR. OWENS

Math rotations are finishing up


the geometry unit. Rotation 3 will be working with PI and the Pythagorean Theorem in the next week. They are encouraged to check their work with a calculator. Rotation 2 will be working on Circles and PI next week. They are encouraged to check their work with a calculator. Rotation 1 will be working with area, perimeter and circumference next week.

Talent Show
Auditions May 24, 2012 3:45-5:00 p.m.

June 6th 2012

Students auditioning should put together a 2 minute presentation for the audition. Talents can range from singing, dancing, showing magic, telling jokes, dramatic readings, juggling, etc.
