1. Objective of work
The main objective of this project is to study the existing lighting scheme in a sports complex. For our purpose, we have selected MARENA, which is an indoor sports complex under Manipal University. The next objective includes simulation of certain sports using the software RELUX which will be done according to the lighting standards used world wide for a particular sport. After studying and simulating, comparative study will be made from the data obtained in order to point out any improvement which can be later implemented.

2. Motivation
Active users like players and referees need best lighting level to perform at their best.Players, referees and match officials must all be able to see clearly all that is going on in the playing area, so that they can produce their best performance or do their work efficiently. Passive users like spectators can see or follow the play without any difficulty in vision. Spectators should be able to follow the performance of the players and the action of the games in a pleasant, comfortable ambience. This means that they must be able to see not only the pitch, but also its immediate surroundings. Playing surfaces should appear to be almost uniformly illuminated, meaning that noticeably dark and light patches should be avoided. This ensures that there will be no contrast or visibility problems for the players and spectators, or sensitivity problems for the cameras. Now a days, sports are being played under artificial lights frequently. Most of these sports are played inside a building or hall. So the importance of indoor lighting increases as this gives the proper playing conditions for the players and better viewing conditions for refrees and spectators.

3. Target specifications if any

The main target of this project is to study the existing lighting scheme used in the indoor sports complex. And then carry out the simulation part for each sport individually according to the international standards.

To provide with a better simulation result in order to reduce glare and reflectance effect which will give much better lighting and thus improved visibility. It will also help in conserving energy and thus reducing cost.

4. Functional partitioning of project

The first part of the project includes a study of the existing lighting scheme which has been implemented for a particular sport. It involves collection of data like-getting details about the type of luminaire used for a particular sport, dimensions of the court and measurement of the lux level for the sport using a lux meter. The second part mainly concentrates on the simulation of individual sport according to the international standards. This simulation is done for a particular class of play. The data collected from the first part and details obtained from the second part will be compared to have a better understanding of the lighting scheme used. .5. Methodology The methodology which we adopted during this project work was divided into two phases The first phase dealt with the study of the existing scheme in which we measured the illuminance level for the three sports and collected various data related to the particular sport, for eg-data sheet of luminaires used and information about the playing area. The next phase includes simulation of some sports using the software RELUX which will be done according to the lighting standards used world wide for a particular sport.

6. Tools required
The tools required are the softwares DIALUX and RELUX..
