contractions
Contractions are a very common way in which fluent English speakers, when they speak or write, are able to reduce two words into one. These new words are written like this: I am = Im I am a doctor. = Im a doctor. How to form contractions To form contractions, you have to replace letters with an apostrophe (). For example, the contraction of I + have replaces the first two letters of have (ha) with an apostrophe (I have = Ive). Contractions using not One of the most common structures of contractions is formed with the word not and either a to be verb, a modal verb (can, should, would, etc.) or an auxiliary verb. To form contractions using the word not, replace the o with an apostrophe (). I do not see it. = I dont see it. She is not here. = She isnt here. We can not (cannot) go. = We cant go.
