Note: This bulletin is reissued to address parts availability. It supersedes bulletin #5923 (9/28/07 revision). SYMPTOM One of the gears in the fusing unit gearbox (fusing drive gear /H) can fail, causing abnormal noise and code C-3102. CAUSE This is caused by insufficient strength of fusing drive gear /H and the way it is supported.

SOLUTION The shaft for fusing unit gear/H has been changed so that it is now supported at both ends instead of just one end. The gear is now made of a stronger material.

Original style: supported on one side

New style: supported on both sides

PARTS INFORMATION The free-of-charge program described in earlier versions of this bulletin has expired, and the gearbox assembly is no longer available. Individual parts are available as shown in the parts catalog. As an alternative to replacing the entire gearbox, only the new gear and the drive unit panels may be replaced; the changed parts are shown below. The longer shaft on the new Drive panel A fits into a hole in the new Drive panel B.
