Assignment Theory Question 1

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Roles, Responsibilities and Boundaries of a Trainer

There are five main areas to consider enabling a course to run effectively. Each of these areas is governed by the responsibilities and boundaries of the trainer. This is known as the Training Cycle.

Planning the Course Responsibilities:

When organising the course my responsibilities must take in account the needs of the students, and I therefore need to consider how I am going to meet those needs, as to what is to be covered during the sessions.

Boundaries:
The venue is one important factor to consider. If we use our own venue, what facilities are we supplying, such as lunch, what type of drinks are available, what time are these to be available, are they flexible and do they fit to the students needs?

Preparation of the Course Responsibilities:

It is my responsibility to ensure the Aims and Objectives of the course are met. This will require me to produce a scheme of work and from this develop the lesson plans required. I will need to ensure that suitable training rooms and other equipment have been booked for the duration of the course. The success of my planning will determine the successfulness of the course.

Boundaries:
Any changes to the syllabus would be beyond my control and would therefore require authorisation from my superiors to make the necessary changes. This would include any changes to lengthen the working day due to any limitations.

Delivery of the Course Responsibilities:

I should endeavour to ensure that all lessons start and end at the correct time. I should also use the most appropriate and varied teaching methods as possible to allow for the students learning styles. All students are entitled to feel that equality, diversity and inclusion are met and maintained throughout the course. Roly Uppiah Word Count: 497 21st September

Boundaries:
I may need to adapt my teaching methods and resources to suit learners needs, e.g. visual impairment, dyslexia and language barriers, etc. One way of doing this is to get the learners to carry out research and present their findings so they feel part of the learning process.

Assessment of learning and the Effectiveness of teaching Responsibilities:

There are several methods to assess how effective the course has been. This could be either in the form of verbal or written questioning or by demonstration of a skill learnt each day, as proof of understanding.

Boundaries:
Courses which only require a formal assessment would only allow for a limited number of attempts and put the students under more pressure.

Evaluation and amendments of the Course Responsibilities:

The main responsibility I have is in answering the question How successful was the course in meeting the aims and objectives and could I improve on this? By looking at the feedback reports written by the students, I can see areas where improvements could be made and would amend as required. Self evaluation is also useful to highlight areas which I feel could be improved.

Boundaries:
The feedback forms are a useful assets in the evaluation process, however can sometimes provide a false sense of success as students may just complete the forms so as not to offend the tutor.

All of the above are equally important to ensure the success of the training cycle.
