DEWIS - Computer Aided Assessment System

There is a wealth of information on the web site, but for me, Mark Ayton (eLearning Adviser, RSC Northwest), essentially it summarises as Dr Rhys Gwynllyw, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at University of the West of England has developed an application producing assessment materials that automatically grades students on-line submissions in the most "human like" way I've encountered. The DEWIS e-Assessment System also provides full traceability, assessment histories and re-grading. "Due to my practitioner experience I can see particular strengths for engineering and mathematic subjects, however other subject specialists may be equally enthusiastic about applications in their field. A new way to learn....
If you and/or your learners haven't tried instaGrok yet, I encourage you to take a look. InstaGrok is going to become a very useful and popular tool amongst practitioners and learners. The basic idea behind instaGrok is to provide students with webs of search terms. Accompanying each web is a set of suggested links, videos, images, and key facts about their original search term. Researchers can pin their findings to a journal page inside their instaGrok accounts. Class accounts allow practitioners to see what their learners are both searching and pinning. ONR Science & Technology Focus

The Office of Naval Research has an interactive site filled with science and technology exploration for learners. Learners can explore oceanography, space, and blow the ballast. Each section having sub categories that let learners narrow down their focus. The majority of the website is information with accompanying images and short quizzes. To be honest, the Science and Technology Office of Naval Research looks old fashioned but, because of the wealth of information that it offers and the student-friendly language and explanations it uses, I feel it is worth a closer look. A website for learners to conduct research projects. Information is concise, easy to understand, and offered in bite-size chunks. Check out the animation section, they are perfect for sharing with the whole class on an interactive whiteboard! Tips: The Animation Gallery can be found in the teacher resource section. TimeMaps - World History TimeMap

TimeMaps lets learners look at every nation, empire and civilization as one story through maps. The history of the world from 3500BC to 2005AD! There are pinpoints on the Atlas that let learners drill down into specific areas, nations and civilizations. Learners get a story about what is happening in this portion of the world, as well as opportunities to explore even further. Below the map, learners can change the date on an interactive timeline. I really like TimeMap as a way to explore history. TimeMaps brilliance is in the way it unfolds the stories in history with the visual of the map. Not only are learners getting a good understanding of how civilizations shaped the world, they are also learning geography.
