LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of this laboratory session, students should be able to: perform delta and wye-connection on transformer by considering the specified input and output voltage, ii. perform voltage, current, power factor measurements in three- phase ac circuit, iii. verify the phase and line relationships for the delta and wye-connected loads, iv. calculate the apparent, real, and reactive power in the three-phase system using the measured power factor value i. PART 1: TRANSFORMER (-Y CONNECTION) with WYE-CONNECTED LOADS and CONNECTED LOADS a) WYE- CONNECTED LOADS ASSEMBLY & PROCEDURES Caution: Do not turn ON the power supply for each of the following sections until the circuit is checked by the lab instructor. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Connect the circuit shown in Figure 1.1. Set the value of R= 150 for load resistor MV1100. Use the multimeter to set the value of R. Ask the lab instructor to check the connection. Switch ON the power supply and adjust the variable power supply to 230Vac. Use the appropriate measurement meter to determine the line-line voltages, line currents, phase voltages and phase currents for all the phases in the load side. 6. Record all the measured values obtained. 7. Adjust the variable power supply to zero volts. 8. Turn OFF the circuit breaker (to switch OFF the power supply).

b) - CONNECTED LOADS 1. Repeat all the procedure given above (i.e. steps 1 to 8), but in this case the WYE-connected load is changed to the -connected load as depicted in Figure 1.2.

a) WYE- CONNECTED LOADS ASSEMBLY & PROCEDURES Caution: Do not turn ON the power supply for each of the following sections until the circuit is checked by the lab instructor. 1. Connect the circuit shown in Figure 1.3. 2. Set the value of R = 150 for load resistor MV1100 unit (use the multimeter to determine the desired resistance value). 3. Set the value for load reactor to position 3. 4. Ask the lab instructor to check the connection. 5. Switch ON the power supply and adjust the variable power supply to 230Vac. 6. Record the power factor value obtained from the power factor meter. 7. Use the appropriate measurement meter to determine the line-line voltages, line currents, phase voltages and phase currents for all the phases in the load side. 8. Record all the measured values obtained. 9. Adjust the variable power supply to zero volts. 10. Turn OFF the circuit breaker.
