THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Dearest Lord Jesus, You are the Vine and in my Baptism I have been engrafted into You and given new life through the power of the Holy Spirit. I rejoice in the forgiveness of my sins and my hope is eternal life with You. As I remain in You and You in me through the Means of Grace, keep me steadfast in my faith and its confession. Grant that I might grow in my faith and use every opportunity available to show forth my love for You and my neighbor. In Your name I pray. Amen

WELCOME
Alleluia, Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed, Alleluia! Jesus said, I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Welcome to everyone gathered here on this morning! It is our prayer that you will be strengthened in Your faith through the proclamation of the Gospel. Each Sunday throughout the year is a celebration of the resurrection of our Lord. We invite you to come and worship with us again. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them if they wish. We have a staffed nursery facility for infants and toddlers located downstairs in this building for anyone who has need. Restroom facilities are located downstairs as well as on this floor level across the bridge before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions, please speak with an usher or greeter.

HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receive Christs very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace are asked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHER
Todays readings draw our attention to our Baptism and then to our Lords command to love one another, for love is from God. Whenever we are able to produce such sweet fruit for God, it is only because He has lavishly bestowed grace and forgiveness on us. He has pruned us as a faithful gardener would prune the vines of His vineyard or the trees in his orchard. When and where God intervenes with His care, we bear much fruit and give Him the glory. Today we hear the words of Scripture, Law and Gospel, in all its truth and purity. In response to His Word, we confess our sins, readied to receive His forgiveness for what is past and strengthened for future opportunities to love, to show mercy, and to forgive as the Lord has forgiven us.

NEXT WEEKS READINGS The appointed readings for next Sunday, May 13th, The Sixth Sunday of Easter, are: The First Reading: Acts 10:34-48, The Epistle Reading: 1 John 5:1-8, and The Gospel Reading: John 15:9-17.

we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen

John 1:12; Philippians 1:6

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Nicene Creed (10:45)

C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. And most especially are we bound to praise You on this day for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us and bore the sins of the world. By His dying He has destroyed death, and by His rising again He has restored to us everlasting life. Therefore with Mary Magdalene, Peter and John, and with all the witnesses of the resurrection, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL - The Sunday School students study the story of Lydia today. Just as God worked His miracle beside the river, clothing Lydia with Christ in Baptism, so God works His miracles in pulpits and fonts around the world today, destroying the work of Satan, ripping believers from the jaws of death, washing away sins in water tinged with Jesus blood, and clothing believers with His righteousness. Parents could ask, How did God use water to save Lydia and us? Who does God use to reveal His Word to us today?
