Chapter I 1.) Distinguish between consensus and conflict theories.

Consensus theories emphasizes on social order, stability and social regulation. And see that shared norms and values as fundamental to society, focus on social order based on implied but not expressed agreements among members of a society, community or group. Conflict theories focuses on the struggle of social classes to maintain dominance and power in social systems. It stresses on the dominance on a certain social group by other members. Consensus theories focuses on agreement among members of a society to promote order and stability based on formed regulations. As conflict theories focuses on members of a society which domineered other members because of competition over scarce resources. And with this group with vested interest to overpower other members whom referred to be less powerful ( based on social class or position of a society). 2.) How are the structural functionalism and symbolic interactionism theories related to education?

The relationship of structural functionalism and symbolic interactionism theories to education as defined that education is the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning. And part of it involves communication, structures and system how it is learned. Structural Functionalism refers to different institutions of a society that worked together in cooperation. It has systems for the members of the society to adapt to the environment, goals that are being identified to be achieved, to balance, combine, and control other components and last

is to create a model for motivation of other individuals to follow. In relationship with education there is a system guided to learners for them to be able to adapt and learn facts & information and set goals of achieving level of standards asked by the educators through processes that are being provided and motivate them by giving rewards. Symbolic Interactionism views the self as socially constructed in relation to social forces and social structures. As humans have the capacity of thinking which was shaped by social interaction.
