The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) invites you and your company to the 2012 Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference (LACPEC), from 1618 April in Mexico City. The theme of our 3-day multidisciplinary technical program is Supply-Side Energy: Latin America Makes a Difference. The goal is to emphasize that the region is aggressively developing new and existing conventional and unconventional oil and gas resourcessafely and environmentally friendly and at a pace that has significantly affected the global energy market. More than 200 technical presentations will be made and more than 1,000 delegates will be in attendance. The conference will also include a young professionals summit, student paper contest, student chapters meeting, and training courses. LACPEC 2012 is an ideal venue to showcase your companys latest technological accomplishments, products, and services. Through exposure to regional oil and gas providers, regional energy officials, and international executives, you will sharpen your business strategy and leverage your goals. La Sociedad de Ingenieros de Petrleo (SPE) lo invita a usted y a su compaa a la Conferencia de Ingeniera de Petrleo para Amrica Latina y el Caribe 2012 (LACPEC), que tendr el 1618 de abril prximo en la ciudad de Mxico. El tema de nuestro programa multidisciplinario tcnico de 3 das es Energa desde la visin del proveedor: Amrica Latina hace una diferencia. El objetivo es enfatizar que la regin est desarrollando agresivamente recursos convencionales y no convencionales de petrleo y gas, unos nuevos y otros ya existentes, de manera segura y sin perjudicar el ambiente. Se realizarn ms de 200 presentaciones tcnicas y se espera la asistencia de ms de 1,000 delegados. La conferencia incluir adems una cumbre de jvenes profesionales, un concurso de artculos tcnicos estudiantiles, una reunin de captulos estudiantiles y cursos de capacitacin. Training Courses
Make the most of your time at LACPEC! SPE is offering several continuing education opportunities through its global training course program. Stay after the conference to attend one of these 1- or 2-day courses, relevant to your technical interests. Courses include Field Piloting for EOR/IOR Schemes, Forecasting Production and Estimating Reserves in Unconventional Gas Reservoirs, and Oilfield Data Mining.

PetroBowl
New at LACPEC! The student PetroBowl will present student chapter teams in a tournament-style contest that tests knowledge of the E&P industry and SPE. Both students and alumni are invited to cheer for their schools!

Young Professionals Summit

Professionals under 36 years old are encouraged to attend the activities designed to expose young engineers to the latest thinking in E&P technology and management skills to prepare them for their future roles as industry leaders.

Student Paper Contest

LACPEC 2012 will also bring together students from universities of the region. The paper contest offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to compete via technical presentations.

Third Latin American and Caribbean SPE Student Chapters Meeting

Under the theme Exploring New Connections, this meeting will join youth leaders to promote the exchange of ideas and encourage integration among SPE student chapters. It is held in conjunction with LACPEC in order to encourage participation from all Latin American and Caribbean countries. The first two meetings held were successful in creating strong regional integration between students. This years meeting will continue to help increase the technical, professional, and personal development of future industry leaders. It will include an ice-breaking activity, presentations from SPE and young professional leaders, group activities, and a cocktail reception.

Simultaneous Translation
Simultaneous translation from English to Spanish and Spanish to English will be provided for each days plenary and technical sessions. Bring a photo ID to claim your headset before the session begins.

Register now at www.spe.org/events/lacpec Register by 27 March 2012 and save USD 100 on full registration. Conference participants can register via the Internet, mail, or fax. Advance registrants may pay in US dollars by check or credit card. Checks are acceptable from US bank checking accounts if payment is made to SPE in US dollars. Travel
Safety in Mexico City Mexico invests heavily in the protection of its own citizens and tourists alike. This includes deployment of policemen in hotel zones, the construction of passenger bridges over major thoroughfares, the employment of Englishspeaking tourism officials to offer assistance to visitors, and strict enforcement of the drinking age. In addition, most US Consulates have joined efforts with local authorities to promote tourist safety. When traveling, as in any major city, take certain precautions. Always keep your valuables out of site and safely stored in a hotel safety deposit box. In the event of a lost or stolen room key card, notify hotel management as soon as possible. Also, travel in a group and plan your itinerary before leaving the hotel. Ground Transportation Complimentary transportation between the Centro Banamex and official hotels will be provided from 1618 April. SPE has partnered with Ecodsa to provide transportation from the airport to the hotels. Visit www.spe.org/events/lacpec for more details. If you plan to take a taxi cab, please use the official taxi cabs provided by the airport or hotel. Before boarding, verify that the vehicles license plate starts with an L or an S; otherwise, dont get in. It is best to call an authorized taxi stand (sitio autorizado) because these drivers are knowledgeable of the city and can get you where youre going more quickly. Make sure that the taxi driver is using the meter at all times.
