The Center for Leadership & Organizational Change (CLOC) provides personalized coaching for leaders and a full array of consulting services to University academic and administrative departments. It is part of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. CLOC staff are successful because we partner with each of our clients. We know that no two University units operate exactly the same way or face identical challenges. We customize our approach to help clients respond to current challenges and set specific goals for future direction. Each project is further enhanced through the use of CLOCs diverse Peer Consulting Network, whose members possess first-hand knowledge of the University of Maryland and its culture. Whether your need is to improve group or individual performance, develop long range goals, reduce conflict, or conceptualize and implement strategic initiatives, CLOC is the ideal partner to help you get tangible results.

CLOCs Peer Consulting Network (PCN) is a multicultural group of faculty and staff whose academic training, professional experience and knowledge of the University of Maryland is leveraged for each client. PCN members receive intensive and ongoing training on a broad range of leadership and organizational issues to augment their vast understanding of the academic environment. PCN members work with CLOC professionals in two-person teams selected to best match strengths and experience with client goals. The CLOC Peer Consulting Network is an invaluable resource for our clients and the University, committed to serving the community with skill, integrity and professionalism.

Grant Partnering
Communication and collaboration are key to the success of large multi-disciplinary or multiinstitution research projects, Centers or Institutes. CLOC gets grant teams on the same page: determining effective communication methods, defining roles and responsibilities, and defusing turf battles. Our partnership management process strengthens grant teams at any stage of a collaborative project from proposal preparation to project launch to mid-course correction.

CLOC partners with colleges and departments to help them identify key participants, define vision and mission, set goals and objectives and create solid action plans that lead to concrete achievements.

some conflict is healthy; too much conflict blocks effectiveness. CLOC works with clients to determine root causes and eliminate unproductive conflict. We build and maintain trust with all parties and design a tailored approach that allows them to confront the elephant in the room, not as an end in itself, but as a means of moving forward.

Changeand resistance to changeis inevitable. CLOC partners with clients to create a plan that will move their organization through desired change in the smoothest way possible. Focus Groups
Honest, thoughtful feedback is essential to making solid decisions. CLOC designs and facilitates focus group protocols for a range of purposes including needs assessments, internal departmental reviews, and customer satisfaction studies. CLOC gathers and analyzes qualitative data to answer such questions as: What role do race and/or gender play in the experience of our graduate students? Do we need to offer another major? How can employee morale be improved?
