Everyday, thousands of dogs (many being previous pets) are caged, beaten, tortured, killed and butchered to feed the Chinese people. from Squidoo
Negative effects of Dog Abuse The single most negative aspect of Dog Abuse is the mental effect. This is based on Dog Abuse Facts and data gleaned from research conducted on animal abuse with particular emphasis on dogs. Physical or verbal abuse can have a long-lasting mental effect on the dog. In many cases, the former can cause the dog to be handicapped for life or live with severe health problems. Shy behavior is when the dog will reject petting or touching and move away. This behavior may include hiding under tables, beds or in closets, etc. Aggression is the other ill effect of Dog Abuse. This dog behavior may include growling at people who approach the dog. Often times, such dogs even attack innocent people and their abuser because of the way they were treated. animaroo
Sometimes abuse of an animal is obvious, but often it is the less obvious neglect cases that are seen in our own neighborhoods. For instance, a dog left in the backyard with no shelter or a cat living in an unsanitary environment. It is these cases of neglect where we rely on you to step forward and report these crimes. Abuse violations - torture, torment, mutilation, cruel beating and cruel killing - take many forms. Torment need not be physical in nature; an animal can be tormented by baiting or teasing, or a pattern of intimidation by yelling or threatening physical harm. Veterinary care must be provided for animals showing symptoms of disease or illness. An animal that has been injured or appears to be in pain must be provided with immediate veterinary care, but some people dont bother and that is a way of physically abusing pets. - animal neglect and abuse
Some people, when they get pets, don't realise the amount of looking after that they need, so they abandon the pets when they become a nuisance. -Wiki answers Abandoned pets are pets that are, for instance, left behind when a home goes into foreclosure or their owner passes away. These animals can be left alone on the property or dropped off at a shelter. While some are left in a shelter, they are typically discovered after the foreclosure process when the realtor or bank enters the home. wikipedia

Prakhar:
Many of these people are animal lovers who dont know, or would rather not know the misery and suffering caused to countless animals in order to meet their needs. Also, little thought is given to the animals that are forced to perform for us in circuses and rodeos or held captive in zoos and aquariums until they become surplus and sold off to face perhaps an even worse fate. Not many stop to think of the torture of the glue mouse traps or rat poison that result in slow, painful death. Although people can more easily relate to the feelings of our companion animals, many of those poor creatures wander the streets homeless and friendless, chased whenever they stop to catch their breath. 40000 are killed each year because people continue to thoughtlessly breed them and many fail to take their responsibility and commitment to these loving companions seriously and carelessly discard them when they become inconvenient to have around. If the screams and moans of the animals used to provide for us could be heard, the sound would be deafening. If their misery and suffering could be felt by us, it would be unbearable. Perhaps you are among this number and are willing to make some lifestyle changes that will not inconvenience you greatly but will make a world of difference to our animal friends.
in 2001 and 2002 the society of SPCA (Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals)received over 18,000 animals The Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong catches over ten thousand stray animals with reference to the survey 23% of Hong Kong have pets
Why are so many pet animals killed and abandoned in Hong Kong? It is due to two reasons: 1) Oversupply There are under-regulated Hong Kong pet shops and breeders, under-regulated legal imports of pet animals, illegal imports of pet animals, (especially from puppy farms in Guangdong), and many pet owners fail to desex their animals. 2) Lack of Demand There are too few (good) homes available. 55% of Hong Kong people live in Public Housing Estates which ban pets.
There are dozens of reasons why people abandon and neglect their animals. Maybe the animals didn't live up to their expectations, or possibly even they only bought the animal to impress their friends or whatever. Many people have gotten rid of the animals because they smell bad, they are too loud, and many more reasons. Some people just are too ashamed to return it, so they toss it or don't care for it anymore. Because they are lazy who cant be bothered to look after an animal so they give them up and abandon them.

common abuse is starvation, dehydration, allowing parasite infestations, allowing the collar to grow into the animal's skin, no shelter in extreme weather, and no medication.
ROXY:
One of the most trustworthy and loving pets that you can bring home are dogs. This is because over the centuries, they have proved to be just this, earning them the title - 'man's best friend'. In most homes and elsewhere, dogs are loved and usually treated well however, there are also many instances of Dog Abuse that is the appalling reality of our times. Sadly, Dog Abuse Facts, recorded by the 'abuse database', reveal that more than half of the 12,000 cases of animal abuse account for Dog Abuse. Fortunately, there are several dog shelters and rescue groups as well as other organization which are fully committed to the treatment and welfare of abused dogs. -animaroo
