A Crisis of Leadership In Greensboro

There is a profound leadership crisis in Greensboro. It is reflected in the land fill issue, the police corruption issue, the redistricting issue, the change in early voting issue, and the looming possibility that the $5 million energy efficiency grant (that leverages $25 million) awarded to Greensboro will be misused. We must act Now! All of the arrows of responsibility point towards our City Council. At the April 20th Council meeting one Council member said that the current Council is the worst one that Greensboro has ever had. We do not need a Council that confuses, misleads, inflames, demonizes and seeks to divide people. We need a Council that tells the truth and helps us work through issues and concerns to the benefit of all residents.

Race is a difficult issue for many to talk about. Yet, race and racism are deeply embedded in the issues mentioned above and in virtually every other issue. However, these issues are also not reducible just to race. They are not just a matter of blacks vs. whites vs. Latinos. Nor are they simply just about Republicans vs. Democrats, or liberals vs. conservatives. All of the above are involved. At its core, however, the entire community is faced with right vs. wrong and justice vs. injustice. There is also a deep disrespect for democracy. The voices of the community must be heard. Let us work together until justice is achieved!
