Croxley Green Business Park Zero Waste to Landfill Initiative Wins Industry Award.

Croxley Green Business Park has claimed first prize for the Waste Management Initiative in Commercial or Public Sector Award at the annual Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management organised by Letsrecycle.com
Posted date: 04/05/12 As of 1 April 2012 Landfill tax increased to 64 per tonne, the incentive for diverting waste from landfill has never been greater. M J Mapp have been working in partnership with the green house on the sustainable vision of achieving zero waste to landfill. With this agenda in mind, over the course of the last year, Croxley Green Business Park has undergone a waste renovation and is now diverting 100% of its waste away from landfill. Croxley Green Business Park was one of three nominees shortlisted for the Waste Management Initiatives in Commercial or Public Sector Award. Following the successful collaborative achievements of M J Mapp, the green house, onsite contractors and occupiers, Croxley Green achieved first prize in their nominated category. The green house, not your traditional waste services provider, value the need for diverting waste from landfill and see refuse as a resource rather than waste, a perfect vision to fit with M J Mapps sustainability agenda. Reeducation provided by the green house, was a key element to ensuring all 2,500 employees at the business park understood the new waste disposal method and vision. Occupiers now segregate all waste at source. Food waste is dispensed into food caddies which are collected and then emptied into a rocket composter producing compost for the flower beds and allotment, food grown in the allotments is used at the onsite caf kitchen. Dry mixed recycling is collected on scheduled delivery and cardboard is baled on site. M J Mapp continue to collaborate with the green house on a number of other managed sites, working closely with Facility and Building Managers and most importantly occupiers, to ensure waste is segregated correctly and contamination is kept at a minimum therefore minimising waste sent to landfill, service costs and negative impacts on the environment. - Ends For further information: The Green House, Robert Twiselton MCIWM Managing Director P: 01604 808 703 M J Mapp, Adele Petterd Environmental Manager adele.petterd@mjmapp.com Letrecyle.com Awards for Excellence http://www.letsrecycle.com/news/latest-news/general/warrington-recyclingofficer-among-awards-winners
