January 31, 2012 Arete Draft 1 Francisco Pizarro

It was another day after the civil war, Francisco Pizarro was calming down from him killing his friend. Francisco and Almagros war had just ended but there was aftermath. Almagros enraged followers were heading for Franciscos palace in Lima with swords in hand. Francisco was about to die. When Almagros followers reached his palace, Francisco was trampled and fell to the ground making a cross out of his own blood. Right before he died he yelled, Jesus. Francisco Pizarro grew up in a small town called Trajillo, Spain. His father was a Spanish captain so Pizarro spent most of his childhood with his grandparents. He lived in the poorest region of Spain and has never learned how to read or write. Pizarro was a crule, determined, and very religious man. Although Francisco Pizarro conquered an entire nation, never gave up, and helped discover the Pacific Ocean he is not an example of arte because he killed thousands of people, was a crule man, and is the most brutal conquistador. Francisco used his good personality traits to do bad things. Francisco Pizarro was a religious man. When he refused to convert to Christianity, Pizarro seized the Inca emperor, and the Spaniards killed 2,000 Indians (Comptons Encyclopedia, 2). Pizarro killed thousands of people including the emperor just because the Incas did not want to convert to Christianity. Francisco Pizarro was a brave man. Pizarro conquered the Inca Empire with only 180 men vs. 6 million people, this is the record for the most astonishing military defeat in history but the only problem was that he killed thousands of people (Hart, Michael H., 5). Although Pizarro had the courage to take on a huge empire and win, he killed thousands of people. Pizarro had good personality traits but he used them to kill people.

Francisco Pizarro was involved in many discoveries and he achieved fame. Francisco Pizarro helped discover the Pacific Ocean. In 1513, he joined Vasco Nunez de Balboas expedition to cross Panama and discover the Pacific Ocean. He was awarded with an encomieno (a grant of honor) and a spot as lieutenant governor of Panama by Governor Pedrarias de Aviala(Gale World History, 1). Pizarro helped discover the Pacific Ocean with Vasco Nunez and was awarded with a grant of honor and a spot as the lieutenant governor of Panama. Pizarro explored and plundered Central America. In 1502, Pizarro went with Nicolas de Ovando (the new governor of Hispaniola) to the Caribbean. After 20 years of exploring, Pizarro helped explore and plunder Central America(Gale World History, 1). Pizarro joined the governor of Hispaniola to go to the Caribbean and explore Central America. Pizarro had some discoveries but was still more of a cruel man. Francisco Pizarro took over the Inca Empire with violence and it took a long time. Francisco had to prepare for his conquest of the Incas. Pizarro took two friends, Diego de Almagro and Hernando de Luque, and a crew to the Incans. Diego provided equipment and Hernando provided funds(Comptons Encyclopedia, 1-2). Francisco got a crew and two friends who provided equipment and funds for the conquest. Pizarro had trouble making his way to the Incas and he lost some people on the way. On Pizarros first expedition of Peru he found 2 years of hardship and suffering(Comptons Encyclopedia, 1-2) Pizarro had trouble on his first expedition. On the start of the second expedition, Pizarro sent Diego to get reinforcements but he bought back vessels for them to leave. Pizarro did not want to leave se he asked who wanted to stay. 13 people stayed. Pizarro ordered a man to go to Spain to ask for promission to get by

Spain(Comptons Encyclopedia, 1-2). Pizarro asked for reinforcements but Diego brought vessels for them to leave but Pizarro did not want to leave. Pizarro asked who wanted to stay, 13 wanted to. He asked someone to get to Spain. Pizarro came to Peru and showed no mercy for the Incas. On Jan. 19, 1530 they sailed out of Spain to Panama with only 3 vessels, 200 men, and 40 horses. After 7 years, Pizarro finally started his conquest, he started small at the coast then built up to the bigger places where he met Atahualpa, the Inca emperor. Atahualpa accepted the invitation to meet Pizarro. Atahualpa blindly accepted it and was killed for not converting to Christianity or to accept Pizarro as his ruler. Pizarro killed Atahualpa and 2,000 other Indians(Comptons Encyclopedia, 2). Pizarro met up with the emperor after he worked up from the coast. Pizarro killed the emperor because he did not accept Pizarros rules. After Pizarro killed the emperor he took control of Peru. A year later, he captured the Inca capital, Cuzco, and made a puppet leader but he escaped and led a revolt against the Spanish but when the revolt was over Pizarro was already dead(Hart, H. Michael, 2-3). Pizarro captured the Inca capital and made a puppet ruler who led a revolt. Pizarro did have a great place in history from this but he is remembered as a cruel ruler and man because of his barbaric maner. Pizarro made mistakes in his life. Pizarro started a civil war with Almagro. Two or three years later Pizarro and Almagro quarreled about the territory each was to govern. This contest soon assumed the proportions of a civil war. Pizarros supporters captured and executed Almagro. The embittered and discontent followers of Almagro then conspired against Pizarro. They assassinated him in Lima on June 26, 1541(Encyclopedia Britannica, 2). Almagro and Pizarro started a civil war out of arguments about the land they would control. Pizarro killed

Almagro and the angry followers of Almagro then killed Pizarro. Pizarro had a very bad first expedition of Peru. Pizarro, on his first expedition to conquer the Incans, had two years of hardship and suffering(Comptons Encyclopedia, 1-2). Pizarro had two years of suffering on his first expedition of Peru. Pizarro made mistakes in his years as a Conquistador and he was killed from one of them. Pizarro did help his country and he made a major discovery but he did not think about the other people that he was stealing from or the people he killed. He only cared about his country. To live a good life people have to think about what they are doing before they do it. Family comes before work and money is not everything in life. If people dont think about what they are doing then they can make a huge mistake and they could lose someone else or even themselves.
