Name: Josh Toon Content/Unit: Basketball / Rules Equipment Needed: Open gym space 30 Basketballs 10 Cones 4 Basketball Hoops 15 Colored Pennys Student Prerequisites: Willingness to learn Active listening Student Objectives: The student will be able to 1. (psychomotor): Students will be able to successfully play a game of basketball with minimal rule violations. 2. (cognitive): Students will be able to recall the rules for different situations when asked by the teacher at the end of the period. 3. (affective): Students will be able to be attentive to the teacher while the demonstration of the rules of basketball is being presented. National Standards: Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning performance of physical activities. ISBE Standards: 19.A.2 Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences in locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor patterns. 19.B.2 Identify the principles of movement (e.g., absorption and application of force, equilibrium). Safety: Students will stay in their own space when dribbling, passing, or shooting unless otherwise instructed. Students will use the equipment appropriately. Health-Related Fitness (HRF) Component & Activities that Support Learning of HRF: Hand-Eye Coordination- Dribbling, passing and receiving, shooting, and defense all require good hand-eye coordination to be able to be successful in basketball. Good hand-eye coordination may improve your reaction time and may also improve cognition. Set Induction: 3 minutes Who has played organized basketball before? Can anyone name some of the rules involved in basketball? Instant Activity: 5 minutes Dribble Relay Race- Students will get into groups of 4. Each group will have 1 basketball. When the teacher says go the student with the ball will dribble to the other side of the room and dribble back and hand the ball to the next person in line. They then do the same thing as the previous student. The team that gets all the students to go through wins. Activity 1: 5 minutes Task Development: Dribble Knockout Extensions (E): Dribble Faster Dribble with non dominant hand Refinements (R): Stay in a triple threat stance Dribble with the pads of your finger tips Application (A): Who can knock the most balls away in 1 minute? Activity 2: 8 minutes Task Development: Partner passing then a shot (minimum 3 passes before shot) Extensions (E): Make either a bounce pass or a chest pass Pass while moving Refinements (R): Lead your partner with the pass Do not travel before passing Application (A): How many shots can you and your partner make off of a bounce pass in 1 minute? Activity 3: 6 minutes Task Development: The game of 21 (up to 13) Extensions (E): Can only dribble with your non dominant hand

Must play defense with arms behind your back Refinements (R): Do not play defense standing straight up Dribble with the pads of your finger tips Follow your shot when shooting to get a rebound Application (A): Who can be the first person to score 21 points? Activity 4: 10 minutes Task Development: 3 on 3 Modified Basketball Game Extensions (E): Everyone must touch the ball before shooting Can only dribble with non dominant hand Refinements (R): Stay low while dribbling On defense, be between your man and the basket Application (A): The team with the most points at the end is the winner. Closure: 2 minutes Ask the students to name some of the rules of basketball we covered today. Ask them what activity they liked the best and which one did they learn the most from? Thank them for allowing me to be apart of their class today.
