TheSookeSkatingClub,throughSkateCanada,iscommittedtoensuringthatallskatershavetheopportunitytoparticipateina safeandwelcomingenvironmentthatisencouragingandpromotestheiroveralldevelopment.Parentshaveanenormous influenceonskatersexperiencesinthesport.Thequalityofaskatersexperienceisdeterminedbytheirrelationshipswith parentsandthemannerinwhichparentsconductthemselvesintheSkateCanadaenvironment. Inthiscodeparentsshallrefertoparentsandguardians.ThiscodeappliestoallparentswhoaremembersofSkateCanada orhavechildrenwhoaremembersofSkateCanada.ParentsshallabidebythiscodeatalltimeswhileparticipatinginanySkate Canadacluborschool,competition,oractivity. Allparentsareexpectedtoconductthemselvesinaresponsiblemannerconsistentwiththevaluesoffairplay,integrity,open communicationandmutualrespect. Parentsshallalwaysmodelpositiveandresponsiblebehaviourandcommunicatewiththeirson/daughterthattheyexpect themtodothesame.Parentswillassumethemajorresponsibilityfortheirson/daughtersoniceconductandattitude. Parentsshallatalltimestreatallindividualsandpropertywithdignity,courtesyandrespect,includingbutnotlimitedto skaters,coaches,officials,volunteers,otherparents,andallotherindividualsthatarepartoftheclub,skatingschool,Sectionor SkateCanada. Parentsshallrefrainfromanybehaviour,orcomments,whichareprofane,insulting,harassing,sexist,racist,abusive, disrespectfulorotherwiseoffensivewithouthostilityorviolence. Parentsshallemphasizetheimportanceofvalueslikesportsmanship,respect,cooperation,competitionandteamworktotheir son/daughterofferingpraiseforcompetingfairly,participationandskilldevelopment. Parentsshallmodelandencouragetheirson/daughtertomaintainahealthybalancebetweenskatingandlife.(i.e.,school, otheractivities,sociallife,etc.) Parentsshallmodelandencouragebalanced,healthyfoodchoicesandsubscribingtoanactiveandhealthylifestyle. Parentsshallsethigh,butreasonableexpectationsfortheirson/daughtersparticipationinskatingfocusingondevelopment andenjoymentforthechild. Parentsshallinstillconfidenceintheirson/daughtersabilityandskilldevelopment,alwaysavoidingcomparisonswithother skaters. Parentsshallcelebratetheacquisitionofskillsandgoalsachievedbytheirson/daughter. Parents,alongwiththeprofessionalcoachandtheathlete,shallbeconsideredmembersofateamwhosemainconcernisthe childsoverallprogressanddevelopment. Parentsshallrespectthattheprofessionalcoachisresponsibleandempoweredfortheoniceandofficedevelopmentofthe athlete.Aparentsroleshallbetotakeahealthyinterestintheirchildsprogressanddevelopmentandberesponsibleforthe childsnutrition,rest,adherencetoofficetrainingregimensetbythecoachorotherfitnessprofessional,overallhealth, lifebalance,andmoralandemotionalsupport. Parentsshallensuretheirson/daughterwearsproperskatingclothingandequipment. ParentsshallneverprovidealcoholordrugstominorsinaSkateCanadaenvironment. Parentsshallneverprovideoradvocatetheuseofperformanceenhancingdrugsorsubstances. Parentsshallavoidanyconduct,whichbringstheirclub,skatingschool,SectionorSkateCanada,intodisrepute,includingbut notlimitedtoabusiveuseofalcohol,nonmedicaluseofdrugsandgambling. Parentsshallopenlysupportandupholdthiscodeofconductpolicyandtakeactionandstepstoensureotherparentsfollow andupholdthiscodeofconductpolicy. Parentsshalladheretothepolicies,procedures,rules,standards,andethicsofSkateCanadaatalltimes. IhavereadandunderstoodtheCodeofConductoutlinedabove,andagreetoabidebyit.Iunderstandthatfailuretoabide bytheseguidelinesmayresultindisciplinaryactionbytheClub.
