Mission and Vision


The College of Science Library aims to be a center of excellence for science information. It believes that information is a resource that will enable the College faculty, staff and students to become globally competitive. It strives to create a climate of scholarship and service in support of the teaching, extension and research activities of the College of Science, in particular and those of other members of the scientific community in the country, in general. As the premier science library for the academic community it also reaches out to all who are in need of science information. Furthermore, it provides a learning environment that is linked to other educational institutions and other information resources throughout the world, thereby allowing for a dynamic interaction among students and faculty, and the integration of technology into the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Goal To facilitate the academic and professional growth of the College of Science faculty, staff and students, the countrys science community and the industry by providing a connected and dynamic library environment through the use of IT in collecting, organizing, and making available relevant information resources. Objectives The objectives of the College of Science Library are focused towards the attainment of its vision and goal. These objectives are to provide the users with the best possible information support through: 1. 2. 3. 4. A relevant and comprehensive collection of multimedia materials in science and mathematics in print and electronic formats Technology tools that will enable them to access digital information such as abstracts and indexes, and full-text materials on CD-ROM, remote online databases and the Internet Knowledgeable and skilled staff who can assist them in using the technology tools and information resources Adequate financial resources to support the librarys information technology structure

In addition, the library would like to:

Link up with other institutions for purposes of resource sharing (referral services, interlibrary loan agreements, and document delivery services) Provide consultancy services and training (seminars, hands-on, and on-the job programs) to other librarians who are starting to automate their libraries Develop appropriate user education and training packages Conduct research and publish their findings

UP Students
What are the requirements in using the library?

UP ID (official or temporary) countersigned for the current semester Activated UP Webmail account* (Go to UP Computer Center to apply for one)

What are the privileges?



Borrowing privileges: circulation books 2 weeks, reserve books overnight, room use other materials 10 books for Graduate Students / 5 books for Undergraduate Students Use of the librarys different stations and facilities

I am a new student, what should I do?

Apply for a UP ID following these steps:

What are the steps in applying for a UP ID?



Go to the University Registrar building Pay the P130 University ID fee Get an appointment slip schedule for your ID picture taking Come back at the appointed date for your ID In the meantime, apply for a temporary ID

How do I apply for a temporary ID?



College of Science students should apply for a temporary ID at the College of Science Library Other students should apply at their respective College Libraries CS Students should bring the following :

Form 5 for the current semester stamped paid Receipt for the ID fee Appointment slip from the Registrars Office 11 ID picture Note that your application will not be processed if you do not have all of these requirements.

Can I also use other libraries?

You will need your countersigned UP ID (official or temporary) to enter and use other UP libraries

What if I have lost my official UP ID or temporary ID? ?



Your borrowing privileges will be suspended until you have claimed your official UP ID Note that the Registrar issues UP ID for a student only once per semester. Apply for a new one following the steps discussed above
