RELIABLE

Iveco engineers conducted targeted studies to improve the cab interior and living space and also worked hard to optimise systems, drivelines and mechanical efficiency. The Stralis underwent a host of tests. More than one million kilometres of functional and ageing tests on demanding tracks. More than one thousand hours on special rigs (e.g. climate-controlled, vibration and ageing chambers) to simulate the entire life span of a vehicle in operation. More than five million kilometres of testing in the field with real customers. More than fourteen thousand hours of functional and reliability tests really put the engines through their paces.

ENGINES

State-of-the-art components and engineering make the Stralis an extremely efficient vehicle under all operational conditions

CURSOR ENGINES : POWER IN ACTION

Cursor engines are the only engines equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) in the heavy transport sector. Available in 8, 10 and 13 litre versions, they cover a power range from 310 bhp to 560 bhp and are already fully compliant with the European Community Euro 5 Directive controlling exhaust emissions. The 6 cylinder in-line configuration with overhead camshaft and rear distribution ensure compact size, fewer components and, above all, great structural rigidity. These characteristics ensure less vibration, lower noise and smooth and sure-footed operation in all situations for better comfort and durability. The Cursors power can be called on at all times because the torque curves peak below 1000 rpm and stay at the same level throughout their range of application. These powerful, reliable engines are designed to offer outstanding performance and also low running costs. They offer superior driving comfort assured by their extraordinary flexibility.

The SCR system is regulated by an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that ensures compliance with regulations even under extreme climatic conditions, without affecting vehicle performance
Reduce Emissions The SCR reduces nitrogen oxides, optimises power unit combustion and reduces fuel consumption and particulate emission Productivity Long engine service intervals and lower overall operating costs: the SCR system increases the productivity of the Stralis

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

The Stralis range is already compliant with the Euro 5 emission control directive due to come into force in October 2009 in all countries of the European Union, well in advance of the legal application deadline. To achieve this extraordinary result, which is indicated by a new E5 logo on the side of the cab, Cursor engines are fitted with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology for exhaust gas posttreatment to ensure reduced emissions of particulate material into the atmosphere. This system involves the use of highly efficient engines, a catalytic converter instead of the usual silencer and a special reservoir for the reducing fluid (AdBlue), which is injected upstream of the catalytic converter through an electronically-managed dosing system. The SCR technology is designed to work throughout the vehicles entire life-time. It makes a particulate filter unnecessary,

does not require much servicing and helps improve vehicle productivity. This system brings benefits not only for the environment but also for anyone buying a Stralis: more power and more torque for the same cylinder capacity; lower weight; lower fuel consumption due to an increase in injection pressure; less energy uptake for heat dissipation and fewer oil changes for the same mileage.

Iveco also offers an Allison 3200 automatic gearbox on the Stralis AT and AD in addition to the EuroTronic automated gearbox. This gearbox ensures peak drive transmission efficiency for missions with frequent stops and starts, e.g. refuse collection. In this case, the built-in torque converter is a hydraulic clutch not subject to wear that increases engine torque when an rpm difference occurs between the power unit and gearbox. Disc brake The entire Stralis range is equipped with front and rear disc brakes All Stralis vehicles are equipped with front and rear disc brakes controlled electronically by the EBS (Electronic Braking System) control unit that offers ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) and EBL (Electronic Brakeforce Limitation) plus an engine brake and Intarder that are activated automatically to minimise service brake wear and ensure that the vehicle decelerates in the best way for the driving conditions. A wide range of rear axle ratios is available for fully-laden missions on motorways and dual carriageways: low numerical ratios are recommended for flat routes with the vehicle under moderate load and less difficult missions in general; high numerical ratios are designed for more demanding applications when traction is a priority as on arduous routes or fully-laden applications. The Arvin Meritor rear axles are designed to meet all the demands of heavy on-road transport. They feature great strength and low maintenance requirements and come in single reduction versions to ensure maximum reliability even on demanding missions. The front axle allows a steering angle of 52: an exclusive advantage for those who work within the distribution sector. 37

FINANCIAL SERVICES
Financial products Iveco Finance offer a wide range of financial, leasing and renting solutions designed to meet the needs of all Iveco customers.

GLOBAL PARTNER WITH MANY SOLUTIONS

Iveco Finance is present in 14 countries, providing support to Iveco customers in all main European markets with the aim of satisfying their specific financial needs and provide solutions to diverse requirements of the world of transport. This is confirmed by more than 55.000 customers worldwide currently profiting of our financial services. Our Products Whether you are a fleet operator or a one-vehicle business, the way the finance is organised can significantly influence your bottom line. Should you own the assets or might it be to your financial advantage not to? Would it help to pay lower instalments up front or pay a peppercorn rental later on? How should the VAT be handled? Hire Purchase Hire purchase (HP) is a financial agreement in which the customer effectively hires a vehicle from Iveco Finance for an agreed fixed term at the end of which, upon payment of an agreed nominal Option to Purchase fee, ownership passes to the customer.Whilst legal title in the asset will belong to Iveco Finance until the end of the agreement, the hirer is the Registered Keeper and may show the asset on their balance sheet and claim the appropriate Writing Down and Capital allowances. An initial deposit is paid, together with the full VAT amount. Customers are then able to reclaim the VAT in their next returns. The HP instalments are based on outstanding capital and interest. Once the Option to Purchase has been exercised, the customer is free to dispose of the asset, retaining the full proceeds from the sale. Finance Lease Companies can lease Iveco vehicles without making a capital outlay that impacts their balance sheet. This means that they can channel financial resources into their core business. The vehicle is hired to the customer for a fixed period without the option of ownership. At the end of the period the customer may choose to continue to rent the asset for a further period at a nominal rental (a peppercorn rental), or to act as an agent in the disposal of the asset. The vehicle is shown as an asset in customers accounts balance sheet but Capital and Writing Down allowances are not allowed. However, the customer is further able to offset the full amount of rentals, as they are paid, against future tax liability. Iveco Finance accounts for the VAT liability of the asset and the customer is only liable for the VAT on the rentals as they become due. Operating Lease An Operating Lease is an agreement where the asset is treated as an off balance sheet item. The agreement is issued with Return Conditions, putting the onus on the customer to meet fixed parameters for vehicle condition and mileage. The advantage of this arrangement is that rentals are significantly lower than under a Finance Lease. At the end of the agreement the customer can choose to extend the agreement or simply return the vehicle, leaving Iveco Finance to dispose of the asset.
