Chapter 2 Population/ Sample 20 participants were chosen randomly for the study.

The inclusion criterion included adolescents ages 13-19. Gender, health status, diseases and weight were not considered. The sample consisted of 20 adolescents who were distributed equally into the fast food group and home-cooked group, depending on their selection. Budget was clearly a factor in a participants choice so prior to participation, information regarding the possible estimated cost was given, especially for the fast food group. Through this, financial conflicts can be resolved early on. Sampling and Data-gathering techniques Quota sampling was used for selecting participants. The researchers decided how many of each category was selected. Population was then segmented into mutually exclusive sub-groups. Economic status was a key factor in choosing people from the sample population. Participants were given questionnaires, before and after taking part in the 3 diet-regimen. In addition, cognitive assessment tools were given after the diet to ensure that changes occurred. Results of the questionnaires and cognitive tests were then transcribed, computed and compared. Research design With regard to the research design used in this study, the researchers opted to use a descriptive-correlational style in which the two groups would be compared on how they have performed in terms of their mood and mental ability for a span of three days. Also, descriptive study was used since merely the comparison of both groups on the specific aspects was the main objective of the researchers, not on the amount of food, but giving more emphasis on the change that may occur given the quality of food that was solely eaten for that specific period of time. Instrument (Describe your questionnaire) The questionnaire used contains questions that would measure the mood aspect of the respondents before and after the 3 day diet regimen on their assigned group. In addition, a cognitive assessment would be done after the regimen using three simple tests that would determine the possible changes that the respondents would have in terms with their level of thinking brought about by the consumed diet. The questionnaire may seem simple, yet the content would fully support the research study as the main tool used, and confidentiality would absolutely be observed. Setting The research will be done the day after the viable participants receive the questionnaires. Technically, the place where the research would be done would be anywhere the participant would be eating (either at the home, school, or the fast food restaurant). The researchers would not be physically present, but the questionnaires would suffice for the participants to relay the data required of them. The data gathering within the span of three days would be targeting data related to the emotional and

social changes of the participant. After three days, the researchers would test the participants for cognitive changes through different tests. Data Processing After collecting the data, the researchers would now process the data. In this case, Correlation will be used. This type of technique will be used because it is deemed to be one of the most appropriate tools among all of the available techniques. In definition, correlation is used to measure and describe a relationship between two variables. Also, this type of technique is used for prediction, validity, reliability, and theory verification. In the study, the group is trying to prove the hypothesis that there would be a slight change in social and cognitive behavior of the subjects who consumed fast food meals for three courses, comprised of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for the duration of three days and there will be no effect whatsoever for the participants who are going to consume food from their house for the same three courses for also three days in relation to their social and cognitive behavior. The researchers will compare the data of the two variables present (those who ate fast food and home cooked meals) to identify their relationship with each other. Through correlation, significant data may be detected.
