MAKING QUESTIONS
PRACTICE: SAMPLE READING
Read the following passages and make questions according to.
NASREDDIN AND THE POT (Simple Past / Reported Speech)
One day Nasreddin borrowed a pot from his neighbour Ali. The next day he brought it back with another little pot inside. "That's not
mine," said Ali. "Yes, it is," said Nasreddin. "While your pot was staying with me, it had a baby."
Some time later Nasreddin asked Ali to lend him a pot again. Ali agreed, hoping that he would once again receive two pots in return.
However, days passed and Nasreddin had still not returned the pot. Finally Ali lost patience and went to demand his property. "I am
sorry," said Nasreddin. "I can't give you back your pot, since it has died." "Died!" screamed Ali, "how can a pot die?" "Well," said
Nasreddin, "you believed me when I told you that your pot had had a baby.

LIFE IS GOOD (To be present/ Simple Present Tense)
I am happy. I have many friends. I have a large family. I have four brothers and four sisters. I am in the middle. Four brothers are older
than me. Four sisters are younger than me. I go to school. I am in the sixth grade. I like my teachers. My teachers like me. I have friends
in every class. My favorite class is history. I like to read about history. History is a story about our past. Soon we will all be history. Then
kids in school will read about us. I hope they like our stories. My best friend is Bobby. Bobby and I do many things together. We swim
together. We play basketball together. We ride our bikes together. I have many other friends. We all go to the mall on weekends. We go
to movies. We go to restaurants. We tell jokes. We laugh. We have fun. Life is great.

MRS. HERMANN
It was winter, and Mrs. Hermann wanted to do a lot of shopping, so she waited until it was Saturday, when her husband was free, and
she took him to the shops with her to pay for everything and to carry her parcels. They went to seven shops, and Mrs. Hermann bought
a lot of things. She often stopped and said, Look, Joe! Isnt that beautiful!
He then answered, All right, dear. How much is it? and took his money out to pay for it.
It was dark when they came out of the last shop, and Mr Hermann was tired and thinking about other things, like a nice cup of tea
by the side of a warm fire at home. Suddenly his wife looked up at the sky and said, Look at that beautiful moon, Joe!
Without stopping, Mr Hermann answered, All right, dear. How much is it? (Nov 21, 2003

ASIA TRIP
We went to Thailand for our summer vacation last year. It was our first trip to Asia. We loved it. We spent a week in Bangkok
and did something different every day. We went to the floating market very early one morning. We didnt buy anything there, we just
looked. Another day we went to Wat Phra Keo, the famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It was really interesting. Then we saw two
more temples nearby. We also went on a river trip somewhere outside Bangkok. The best thing about the trip was the food. The next
time we have friends over for dinner, Im going to cook Thai food. (January 17, 2000)

Summers. They had hits with Message in a Bottle in 1979 and Every Breath You Take in 1983. The Police played together until 1984.
Then Sting started to sing on his own and took prizes for several songs. He acted in the films Birmstone Treacle in 1982, Dune in
1984 and Plenty in 1985. He married Trudy Styler in 1986. (November 29, 1999)
