Trenching Systems Telecoms Cable Ploughs

Seaworks Sea Stallion 2

Telecoms Cable Plough Systems
EBs telecoms plough designs were first launched in the subsea telecoms boom of the 90s. Both the SS2 and SS3 survived the downturn and are currently experiencing a renaissance as the global demand for high-speed internet climbs exponentially. The EB SS3 is an aggressive deep ocean plough specifically adapted for the deep burial of telecoms cables and large diameter repeaters. Unlike other vertical knife ploughs, the forward rake of the Sea Stallion cutting elements creates an additional downward force during operation ensuring consistent and reliable product burial, even in stiff clays and sands. In 2009, the groundbreaking 13,700km SEACOM fibre-optic cable off the east coast of Africa was completed by TE Subcom (formerly Tyco Telecom), a contract won on the back of the proven track record of their SS3. Using another of their SS3s, TE Subcom also recently completed the TGN-Intra Asian Cable System, a 6,800km cable providing quick, reliable connectivity throughout the region.

Specialist Handling Systems Wind Turbine Installation

Talisman Beatrice Offshore Wind Turbine Installation System (BOWTIS)

The offshore wind sector presents many challenges for the safe, efficient and cost-effective installation of structures in the marine environment. EB has proven expertise in developing and supplying innovative handling solutions for the construction of offshore wind parks. It previously supplied the system which allowed the first installation of fully assembled offshore wind turbines, and first installation of offshore turbines from a floating vessel, known as BOWTIS. In combination with business units across the IHC Merwede group, EB continues to develop a range of enabling technologies and vessel concepts for future installation operations. As offshore wind parks increase in scale, distance from shore and the water depth in which they are located, so too do the engineering challenges that must be solved. EB has developed designs for jacket installation from floating vessels, fully assembled turbine installation both from jack-up vessels and floating vessels, and tools, such as a blade handling system, to aid maintenance and servicing tasks.

R&D Foundation Installation Vessel

Deeper water offshore wind projects will require new and more efficient installation vessels and equipment for foundation installation. EB has developed a number of concepts aimed at providing a stable, cost-effective and efficient means of installing jacket foundations for future offshore wind farms. This floating system is independent of water depth and seabed conditions so avoids the need for timeconsuming jacking operations. Installation of jacket piles is achieved by the use of an onboard mobile crane. In the present configuration the concept allows the loadout of four jackets simultaneously. To allow rapid mobilisation and deployment the jackets are secured to the vessel using hydraulic seafastenings, and are transferred to and from their stowage positions by two mobile lifting gantries. Gantry movement is achieved using standard skidding units.

Life Cycle Support
EB understands the importance of working with clients after equipment is handed over to them. Good maintenance can extend product life considerably, with down time often being extremely costly. EB therefore offers all products with a recommended spares package, and can also source replacement or spare parts as and when required during the operational life of a system. EB offers clients access to support services via its 24-hour support line and has the resources and capabilities to provide worldwide support at short notice. If there is an equipment breakdown or other failure users need the reassurance that issues will be addressed in their time zone!. Remote-link technology is implemented by EB that allows office-based support of control systems. When a customer requires support, the user simply connects the Control System PC to the internet and logs in to the EB support website; once a secure support session is established EB engineers can remotely operate the Control System PC. The support engineer can then monitor, operate and edit the SCADA and the PLC code just as though they were using the PC locally, while at all times the local client operator has ultimate control over the connection and level of access. EB appreciates that from time to time the way equipment is to be used may change or customers may have technical questions concerning what the equipment can or cannot do in connection with their own proposals to secure new work.
