Theme: 'BLACK PEARL'- the most feared ship of the seas and the oceans, was on a journey and

sailed through tides and storms and uneven weather amidst the water on all sides in dark nights and cloudy days with his CAPTAIN - Captain Jack Sparrow and a dream to chase i.e. to find the lost Treasure. Finally, it reached its destination and found out the lost Treasure, but fate betrayed Jack, for the dream was full of lust and greed. The ship was thrown deep into the sea and the Captain was left alone on the lonely island. But, fortune favored Jack even this time and he found some useful material on the island. Now, he is planning to build the ship and carry as much treasure as possible. So, help him out to build the ship and carry as much treasure as possible and let the Sparrow fly out its wings over the seas and the oceans. Problem Statement: Construct a ship like structure within given constraints which must float on water with maximum load with safety. Criteria: 1) Max. Dimension of ship Length- 40 cm Breadth- 20 cm Height- 25 cm 2) Part of ship underwater after loading- 4/5th of height of ship 3) The ship should bear minimum load of 3kg 4) Density of material will be considered while scoring if necessary. (Click on the Image to enlarge it.)

Testing: 1. Ship will be allowed to float and stabilize on water. 2. Load is applied on it and level of submergence is noted after 20 second for respective load. 3. Three chances of loading provided. All chances are compulsory. 4. Min. Difference between two successive loadings- 500g Load in succession must be ascending. 5. For scoring the 3rd level of submergence is considered. 6. In case if the ship gets completely submerged the level of submergence of previous attempt is taken for calculation. 7. Participant should provide loading platform such that the loading will be axial 8. Loading of ship will be done by participants themselves. Scoring:

Total score = S= L*100 - (db*15+ dh*10+ dl*5) - E*10 +J

Scoring will be based on 4 parameters: 1. Load (L in Kg) 2.

Change in dimension (dl- change in length, db change in breadth, dh change in height) 3. Error in submergence level (E) 4. Judge (J) Rules: 1. Maximum 3 participants will be allowed. 2. Ship Model report is to be submitted with 1 soft copy with maximum 3 pages on A4 size paper only, font size 12 Times New Roman & additional abstract with maximum 50 words with participants name & college name. Entry fee Rs. 400 per team. Date of event- 10th March 2012 Last date of Receiving entries 5th March 2012
