Dr. Hayes W icker, Senior Pastor

Global Impact
For many years, our church has been mission-minded. We are not only one of the leading givers to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention and its worldwide mission efforts, but we also have various partnerships and local missions. We regularly send out mission teams around the world. We are constantly reminded of how God uses our Naples base of operations to minister to those who have immigrated to the United States, as we proclaim the gospel in our Romanian, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Haitian congregations on this campus. We continue to conclude that God has called us to preach the gospel to them as we have received the heavenly vision (Acts 16:10). We were challenged this year by the dynamic preaching of Dr. Paul Negrut, Founder and President of Emanuel Baptist Seminary and Church in Oradea, Romania. From our pulpit, he invited me to teach and preach in that country so recently delivered from the grip of dictatorships. I am flying this Sunday after services to Romania to begin to teach for approximately four hours each day in their seminary, preach in Chapel, speak to their youth, and speak in their churches and at their Seminary Commencement. I trust that I will encourage and strengthen the brethren, being sent away from you in peace (Acts 15:32, 33). I greatly need your prayers for healing of a sinus infection, strength, and adaptation to the time change and the number of hours of speaking. I will be stretched to the limit during this short trip and will be relying completely upon the Lord. I trust that much fruit will be born as I invest in the present and future leaders of Eastern Europe. I will only miss one weekend of being in the pulpit. I look forward to deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:19). We are very excited to welcome back Dr. Jay Strack, who will be speaking in my absence next weekend. He grew up in Fort Myers in a highly dysfunctional home, but was delivered from drug addiction and abuse to become one of our nations leading evangelists and communicators. He has spoken at various crusades in the churches where we have served over the years, and I consider him one of my dearest friends and greatest encouragers. Jay is the founder of Student Leadership University and has been used by God to train over 46,000 students in leadership and lifeskills. He has also spoken to more than 15 million people, all the way from the Astrodome to the Politburo in Moscow. He is a motivational and leadership consultant to NASA, Wal-Mart, Chick-fil-A, Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, Disney, Universal Studios, and the NBA. His unique gift of humor and coolness makes him an immediate hit in the 10,000 high schools and universities that he has spoken in worldwide. Pray for Jay and welcome him warmly.

Summer Mens/Womens Combined Study

Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life Beginning on Wednesday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center, our men and women will combine to begin our summer study. The freedom to grow in godliness - to naturally express Christs character through your own personality - is in large part dependent on a deliberate cultivation of the spiritual disciplines. Far from being legalistic, restrictive, or binding, as they are often perceived, the spiritual disciplines are actually the means to unparalleled spiritual liberty.
