THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

SERVICE FOR THE LORDS DAY May 20, 2012 Ascension Sunday

This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ Jesus and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there's not a trace of darkness in him!

ORGAN PRELUDE: Meditation from Thais CHORAL INTROIT

CALL TO WORSHIP: From the very first day, they were there taking that first Easter all in we heard it with our own ears, saw it with our own eyes, verified it with our own hands. The Word of Life- Jesus resurrected- appeared right before their eyes; they saw it happen right before them! And now we're telling you in most sober prose that what we witnessed was, incredibly, this: The infinite Life of God himself took shape before all of us. They saw it, they heard it, and now they're telling all of us so we can experience it along with them, this divine experience of complete communion with God the Father, and his Son, Jesus Christ. For Jesus is surely Risen! A hymn of glory let us sing! For Jesus is truly Risen indeed! Amen and Amen! *HYMN #322G A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing! *CALL TO and PRAYER of CONFESSION

If we claim that we're free of sin, we're only fooling ourselves. On the other hand, if we admit our sinsGod won't let us down; he'll be true to himself. He'll forgive our sins and purge us of all our wrongdoing. If we claim that we experience a shared life with God but continue to stumble around in the dark, we're obviously lying through our teethwe're not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being Light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God's Son, purges all our sin. In silence, we now confess *ASSURANCE of PARDON and GLORIA PATRI *AFFIRMATION of FAITH: Apostles Creed (see back cover) WORDS of WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS CHILDRENS MESSAGE:

Garden for God is up and running again for 2012! The youth spent lots of time out there during the 30-hour famine, planting and planning and dreaming of the future!! We have planted carrots, lettuces and lots of other healthy things! As always, there is a sign-up sheet in the narthex for watering and weeding. However, if you feel that signing up for a week at a time is unrealistic for you, you can still help! Maybe you have some extra time one afternoon or 10 minutes before a meeting or church function. Just head across the street and pull some weeds or turn on the sprinkler for a bit. Garden tools, the hose, and the sprinkler are kept there for your use anytime and your efforts will be much appreciated by many local hungry people!
