Katerina is currently working as a shipping consultant and ship broker at Cosmos Shipping SA. She was for a number of years the Head of the Shipping, Transport & Logistics Department at BCA College of Athens (Greece) which collaborates with London Metropolitan University (UK). Her extensive teaching experience has been gained at various colleges and universities, lecturing on undergraduate courses in shipping, maritime business and related subjects. She also has many years experience as an industry consultant, working in Greece and the UK on varied projects in national and international shipping and logistics. Katerina holds a degree in Maritime Business with Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth (UK). Prior to this, she studied Business & Finance at North Hertfordshire College (UK). Her postgraduate studies include International Shipping at the University of Plymouth (UK) and Maritime Studies with International Transport at the University of Piraeus (Greece). Katerina is also a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), Womens International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) and Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists (HAME). Her area of research focuses on shipping policy and strategy, logistics, freight analysis and vessel sale and purchase. She is the author of articles and papers in a range of magazines and newspapers as well as being a reviewer for the Maritime Policy & Management Journal. She is a respected participant in various shipping and logistics conferences and forums.

HOW TO ENROL: Complete the enrolment form or Fast Enrol online at www.lloydsmaritimeacademy.com Your application will be reviewed by the course team before being forwarded to the Course Director / academic partner for approval. Participants will be notified by email if they have been successful or not in their enrolment. This process can take two to four weeks to complete. An invoice will also be sent if you are accepted onto the course. Please ensure that you enrol in sufficient time for your application to be processed and approved as well as your invoice paid prior to the start date. Enrolments after the application deadline will be accepted but payment is due with your application and will be refunded if your enrolment is declined. COURSE FEES: Course fees and any additional options are listed on the enrolment form. ONLINE DIPLOMA FEE: This is for participants wishing to receive the course materials online and save/print the documents themselves. The fee covers access to the modules; assignment marking; tutorial seminar costs; forum access; examination costs and the issuing of the Diploma/Certificate. FOR INTEREST ONLY FEE: This covers online access to the modules and course forum only. Students will not be able to submit assignments, sit the examination or receive a certificate of completion. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY: Participants should be able to prove the following levels of prior educational attainment: A-Level standard or equivalent (High School) or NVQ Level 4 or equivalent or Candidates with no formal qualifications but who can demonstrate a number of years of relevant experience are welcome to apply. COURSE DURATION: The course commences on 30th July 2012 with the release of the first module. Modules are released onto the website one per month. ENDS : 28th June 2013 with the examination. MODULE DELIVERY: Electronic versions of the materials in PDF format are available to download, save to your computer, and print from the course website. You can also opt to have hard copies for an additional fee. PLEASE NOTE: Every effort will be made by the organisers to distribute the materials at the rate specified. However, occasionally, certain unforeseen circumstances may delay the delivery of a module. EXTRA MATERIALS REQUIRED: The modules are designed to be self-contained; however, a supplementary reading list will be included in the course handbook. COURSE WEBSITE: The course website has been developed in order to offer participants convenient and flexible access to course modules and support materials. The website also provides access to a course discussion forum allowing you to enhance your learning experience through interaction with your fellow participants. WEBSITE ACCESS: Further information will be emailed to participants after enrolment and your username and password will be supplied in the week before the course start date. ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE: TUTOR MARKED ASSIGNMENTS: The course is assessed by written assignments at regular intervals and they are a compulsory element of the course. Assignments include a variety of formats designed to test understanding of all the modules. Collectively the assignments count towards 40% of a participants total mark. EXAMINATION: The examination is worth 60% of an exam candidate's total mark. STUDY TIME: As a rough guide, you may spend between 10 and 30 hours studying each module in a month with additional time needed to complete the tutor marked assignments. Studying time is conditional upon the participant's preferred study style, existing knowledge, experience and whether English is their mother tongue. The nature of a distance learning programme requires students to adopt a disciplined and independent approach to their studies. In order to study independently, you will require good time management skills and self motivation. TUTOR SUPPORT: SEMINARS: There will be two optional seminars held during the course in London. The first will be held on Friday 2nd November 2012 and the second on Thursday 27th June 2013. They afford an excellent opportunity to meet fellow participants, the Course Director and course authors. EXAM LENGTH: Three hour open-book. EXAM LOCATION: Examination is held in London. COURSE AWARDS: The following awards are presented by the North West Kent College on completion of the course. DIPLOMA: Satisfactorily passing all of the assessments will result in the award of a Diploma. Participants are either awarded a pass, merit or distinction depending on the level of their achievement. CERTIFICATE: If you choose not to sit the exam, subject to successful completion of the compulsory tutor marked assignments, participants may be awarded a Certificate. HOW TO ENROL 1. Applications To apply for a place on the Course (as defined below) either complete the relevant application form (Application Form) or apply online. Your application is an offer to Lloyds Maritime Academy (a trading division of IIR Limited) (LMA) to study on the course as set out in the Application Form (the Course) which is subject to LMAs (and any associated academic partners) acceptance. A binding contract between LMA and you will only be formed when written confirmation of acceptance (which may be sent by email) is sent by LMA to you. 2. Payment You must pay to LMA the fees set out in the Application Form. Payment of any invoice must be received by LMA, in full and in cleared funds, within 30 days of the invoice being issued or by at least one week prior to the start of the Course, whichever is sooner. Please note that non-payment of fees will result in the withholding of any Course materials due to be provided as part of the Course (the Course Materials) and LMA may charge you interest on any overdue fees at the rate of 2% per annum above National Westminster Bank Plcs base lending rate from time to time. You may pay by (i) a cheque made payable to IIR Ltd; (ii) Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club or American Express; or (iii) bank transfer. On booking, your credit card details will be required. No charge will be taken at this point, but if you fail to pay any invoice in full and on time, we will charge the card for any outstanding sums. 3. Taxes The fees stated are exclusive of any applicable VAT, sales, service or similar taxes (which will be charged, where applicable, at the appropriate rate as at the date of invoice). Where payment is subject to a withholding tax the student will apply the reduced rate under the appropriate double tax treaty, if applicable, and agree to provide LMA with a certificate of tax deduction within three months of payment. If a certificate of tax deduction is not provided within three months, you will become immediately liable to pay the outstanding amount. 4. Participant Cancellation Policy You may cancel your place on the Course by giving notice in writing to the Course Administrator up to (and including) 7 days from the date LMA confirms your acceptance to the Course in accordance with Condition 1 and you will not be liable for the payment of any fees and any fees already paid to LMA for the Course will be refunded. If LMA receives your notice of cancellation 8 days or more from the date LMA has confirmed your acceptance to the Course you will still receive a refund of your fees already paid to LMA, subject to payment by you to LMA of a 200 cancellation fee to cover administrative costs (which shall be payable immediately upon your cancellation), provided such notice of cancellation is received by LMA before the first day of the Course. LMA regrets that no refunds can be given for any cancellation notice it receives on or after the first day of the Course and, in such circumstances, the full fees remain payable by you to LMA. 5. Course Cancellation, Re-scheduling and Alterations LMA reserves the right to cancel or change the dates of the Course. LMA may offer you the option of participating in any re-arranged comparable Course that LMA chooses (in its sole discretion) to organise. If you choose not to participate in any re-arranged Course or if LMA does not organise such a Course then you will (as your sole remedy) be entitled to receive either a credit note or a refund in respect of the fees received from you by LMA. LMA reserves the right to make non-material alterations and/or amendments to the Course as in its reasonable opinion it considers to be in the best interest of the Course (including, without limitation, any non-material alteration to the Course or the scope of the Course) without liability. 6. Intellectual Property LMA owns or is licensed all intellectual property rights in the Course and Course Materials. You acknowledge and agree that any Course Materials which are provided to you may only be used solely for your own private, noncommercial use. You may not reproduce, transmit, distribute, resell, sub-license, rent, lease, transfer or attempt to assign the rights in or commercially exploit or use the Course Materials, alter or create derivative works from the Course Materials or otherwise use or exploit the Course Materials other than as expressly permitted in this Condition 6. 7. Entire Agreement You and LMA (the Parties) acknowledge that these terms and conditions, together with your application form, constitute the entire agreement between the Parties Agreement) in relation to the Course and that neither Party relies upon any oral or written representation made to it by the other Party. No variation of this Agreement shall be effective unless made in writing signed by or on behalf of each of the Parties to this Agreement. 8. Governing Law and Jurisdiction This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the England and disputes under or in connection with them shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. 9. Limitation of Liability LMAs liability for losses you suffer as a result of LMA breaching this Agreement or otherwise in connection with the Course is limited to those losses that are a foreseeable consequence of LMA breaching this Agreement. Losses are foreseeable where they could be contemplated by you and LMA at the time LMA accept you onto the Course. To the extent that LMA is liable for such losses, LMAs total liability will only extend to the fees paid by you to LMA under the Agreement. In addition, LMA shall not be responsible for any indirect losses which happen as a side effect of the main loss or damage and which are not foreseeable by LMA. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this section 9 shall seek to limit or exclude LMAs liability for: (i) death or personal injury resulting from negligence or (ii) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (iii) any breach of LMAs obligations implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 or section 2 of the Supply of Services and Services Act 1982; (iv) any losses for which it is prohibited by section 7 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 to limit liability; or (v) any other matter for which it would be illegal or unlawful for LMA to exclude or attempt to exclude its liability. 10. Severance If any provision of this Agreement (or any part of any provision) is found by a court or other authority of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision or part-provision shall, to the extent required, be deemed not to form part of this Agreement and the validity and enforceability of the other provisions of this Agreement shall not be affected. 11. Waiver No failure by either Party in exercising any right, power or remedy shall operate as a waiver of the same. 12. Force Majeure LMA shall not be deemed to be in breach of this Agreement or otherwise be liable to you as a result of any delay or failure to perform its obligations if and to the extent that such delay or failure is caused by a force majeure event (this means any event arising that is beyond the reasonable control of LMA, including but not limited to, any industrial dispute, health scares or epidemics, tutor, consultant or participant cancellation or withdrawal, venue damage or cancellation, governmental regulations or action, fire, flood, disaster, civil riot, acts of terrorism or war). If the period of delay or non-performance continues for 3 months, either party may terminate this Agreement by giving 14 days' written notice to the other party and any fees already paid to LMA for the Course will be refunded. 13. Data Protection and Call Monitoring Personal data supplied is subject to the Data Protection Act 1998. The personal information shown on the application form, and/or provided by you, will be held on a database and may be shared with companies in the Informa Group in the UK and internationally.
