Los Lunas High School top seniors strive for success

The Los Lunas High School Top 10 graduating seniors are looking forward to a little summer fun before getting moved into college dorms and preparing to enter the universities they plan to attend. Their ideas are to enjoy some horseback riding, playing football, traveling, doing artwork, playing music, dancing, practicing gymnastics, spending time with family and hanging out with friends. A group of us have a fitness club, and we go run, said Ted Olguin. We like to play KGB, said Rikki Hall. KGB is a game of detective work where runners set off for a destination and seekers try to find them en route. The seekers know where the destination is, they just have to try to figure out which way the runners will go, the students said. The Math League, which includes Samantha Lucero, Christopher Marry, Lana Ellis, Kelsae Adame, Michael Pierce and Shyanne Kapalko will

go to Las Vegas, Nev., this June for the Americas Region Math League competition. Theyll get a day to visit the sights as well. Danayara Flores will be traveling to South Carolina this summer for military training. She joined the U.S. Army. Some of the favored subjects the students enjoyed in high school are psychology, theater, video, weight lifting, art, anatomy, FFA and agriculture, chemistry, math and engineering classes. Ten seniors enjoyed a trip to England this year during spring break. They said the people in London were beautifully dressed. They also took a ferry to Ireland, spending about a week abroad. They were really impressed with European culture, and were deeply affected by their visit, they said. I think next year, Im going to move to Spain to go to school, said Alexandra Yebra. I love being overseas. Last year, the senior trip took students to Italy. If a genie granted them a career wish, these students would ask to be professional football players, cardiac surgeons, psychiatrists, mechanical or nucle-

ar engineers, pediatricians and even president of the United States. One student said she wanted to be a doctor in Africa, and Michael Pierce said he wants to be a lawyer. He plans to attend the University of New Mexico. I want to be a rock star, said Shyanne Kapalko and Celina Martinez. I would be an artist and travel, said Lana Ellis. A criminal defense lawyer is what Kendle Chavez wants to be, and Braulio Arrieta is interested in a career as a forensic scientist. Sierra Harland is going to the University of Pennsylvania to study to be a linguistic specialist in the FBI. Looking back on their high school years, the seniors are willing to offer younger students some perspective. Its not as hard as people think it is, said Rikki Hall. As a group, the seniors said what they believe is important in life is getting an education, working hard, enjoying the little things, living dayby-day in the present, finding happiness and being humble. Being happy with yourself, finding peace with yourself, said Ellis. Live life to the fullest, said Arrieta. But family topped the list. I just feel that they are really your rock, said Hall. They always want the best for you, said Tabet.
