Some of your friends experiences are funny, and some others are very exciting. There are also bad ones. Whatever experiences you have, they mostly make you all laugh and you certainly enjoy them. When you are conveying your past experience it means you are producing a text of recount. In this unit you learn it. The objective of producing recounts is to tell about past experience. Events in history books, autobiographies, biographies, are some example of recount texts. The text of recount is generally constructed as follows: ORIENTATION A series of past activities

Wedding Ceremony Last week my neighbor, Mr.Waskitos family, held a wedding party. They celebrated the wedding of their beloved daughter, Santi Karmila. And the bridegroom is from Sydney, Australia. His name is Paul Blair who met Santi when she took her Master of Business Administration (M.BA) in Sydney. The wedding party was held at Hyatt Hotel Surabaya on Sunday October 2nd, 2005, Before the ceremony was held, the bride and the bridegroom had been engaged for three months on August 18th , 2005. Paul s parents came to Santi s parents to propose her . At that meeting, they introduced each other very kindly. They talked seriously to make some agreements about the day, date, the wedding tradition they used and where the ceremony was held, at home or 9

at the Hyatt Hotel. Both of them agreed with the last choice. The meeting had lasted for three hours. They chose on Sunday October 2nd, 2005. Two days before they had the wedding party, the bride and the bridegroom had taken a bath called siraman. There, their parents cut and put some hair from the bride and bridegroom it was kept in a special place called kendil. Then it was buried in front of their house. The next day, the ceremony was with the penghulu. The bridegroom pronounced a holy pledge in the mosque and was guided by penghulu. Paul was nervous when he responded the penghulus statement. It lasted about an hour. In the evening, the wedding ceremony began at seven oclock. There were many guests attending it to congratulate them and to hope that they would lead a happy marriage. The party finished at 9:30. I felt happy to see a mixed marriage, an Indonesian bride and the an Australian bridegroom, standing in wearing a traditional Javanese costumes. Reorientation Paragraph six PANGAGADARAN EARTHQUAKE I got a terrible experience during an earthquake last week. When the earthquake happened, I was in my car. I was driving home from my vacation to Pangadaran. Suddenly my car lunched to one side to the left. I thought I got a flat tire. I didnt know that it was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I saw a telephone and an electricity pole falling down to the ground, like matchsticks. Then, I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the rocks. Even I couldnt move my car at all. There was nothing. I could do but left my car and walked along way to my house in the town. And, when I got there I was so surprised that there was almost nothing left. The earthquake made a lot of damage to my town. Although nothing was left I thanked to the God that nobody was seriously injured
