On Sunday, June 24 we will gather to worship God and join in fellowship on the side yard of the church. Bring a lawn chair or blankets to sit on. Bug spray is also recommended! Right after the worship service we will eat lunch together. Each family or individual is asked to bring a main dish and a side dish (e.g., salad, vegetable, dessert, etc.) Drinks and all paper products will be provided. We will not have Sunday School on June 24. Please come directly to the outside service. Also, in the case of inclement weather, we will worship in the sanctuary and have our meal in the Fellowship Room. Bring a friend! It will be fun!

Celebration of the Sacrament of the Lords Supper

Please join us in celebrating the Lords Supper on Sunday, May 27 and Sunday, June 3. Please prayerfully prepare for the celebration of the Lords Supper.

The Adult I Adult Sunday School Class will be studying Gods call for justice during the summer quarter beginning June 3. Have you ever wondered why justice work should be an important part of Christian discipleship? If Jesus kingdom is not of this world, why should the church be so concerned about matters of political, economic, and social policy? We will consider these questions and more during a survey of the Old Testament, including the Pentateuch, Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, the Psalms and the Prophets. The class meets Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the Conference Room and all are welcome.

The Adult II class is currently studying the Apostle Pauls Epistle to the Romans. We will finish chapter 9 this Sunday, May 27. This is a casual study in which we discuss the various points of Pauls teachings in todays terms. Our next study will be a book written by theologian J. I. Packer, Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God. This study will look at the various Bible passages that seem to conflict between evangelistic outreach and Pauls writings describing salvation as being by grace (i.e. chosen by God). There will be plenty of time allotted for looking at our faith and discussing it. Both the Romans study and our next subject will help each of us to understand the Word of God and how it applies to our daily lives. Come join us! We begin at 9:30 AM each Sunday in the library.

Highlights from our May Meeting:

Restored Howard Vassos to the active membership roll. We rejoice in Howards return to active participation in DPC. Approved report of elder commissioner Rusty Norton on the April Presbytery of Eastern Virginia meeting. Approved the DPC and DPPK financial reports for April 2012. Authorized the Worship Committee and Information Technology Committee to move forward with hiring Francis McDonald of J & F Productions, Inc. to do an analysis of our sanctuary sound system. Received committee reports.

Denbigh Presbyterian Pre-Kindergarten

We have had a wonderful school year! Thank you to everyone from the congregation who worked to make this year a success. Members of the church have done so many things for us at DPPK- fixing leaks in the bathrooms, dressing up as Mrs. Claus, donating Campbell Soup labels, providing the backdrop for our Halloween photos, and so much more. I am truly appreciative. We are continuing to register for next school year. I will frequently stop into the DPPK office over the summer to check messages, so if you know anyone who would like to enroll their child or grandchild for September please encourage them to call 898-1043. They can also register online at www.dppre-k.com and I will receive it at my home email address. There are registration packets located in the church office as well. Thanks for spreading the word! Maggie Vincelette Director, DPPK

DPC will work on Saturday, June 23, 2012. For more information contact Terry Hall.

S.H.A.R.E.
June 2012 S.H.A.R.E. order can be placed the week of June 4-8. The order will be placed on Monday, June 11 at 10:00 AM and will be distributed in the Narthex area of Denbigh Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 23 from 7:00-7:30 AM. All orders must be picked up by 7:30 AM. Volunteers cannot be held responsible for orders which are not picked up.

Local Missions
The Local Missions Team continues to serve our local community in a variety of ways. We have a strong partnership with Denbigh United Christian Outreach (DUCO) and collaborate regularly as we assist people in need. We are seeking a coordinator or a two-person team to coordinate the PORT Homeless Ministry during the 2012-2013 season. Please give prayerful consideration to this opportunity to serve. Wanda Hale will still provide strong administrative support and coordination for this ministry during regular office hours. We are developing plans for our summer ministry at Paul's Mobile Homes Estates. Please watch the bulletin and next month's Digest for ways you can serve.

World Missions
Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously to the Haiti school lunches. Hungry children are being fed in Foison, Haiti because of your contributions. From January to April 30, 2012 we contributed $2,830 for school lunches. This amount of money fed all 700 children at the Foison School for 28 days. We want to thank Sara Crippen's family for inviting guests at Sara's surprise birthday party to contribute to the Haiti Lunch Program in lieu of gifts. From January to April, 2012 we contributed $422 for the Foison Water Project. Our missionary Bruce Robinson has asked that we emphasize the Haiti school lunches through the end of May, then to shift our emphasis to the Foison Water Project. Bruce reports that rain has come to Foison, Haiti and with it an increase in cases of cholera. The long-term solution to both the hunger and clean water problems is the completion of the water system at Foison. As you feel led, please contribute to the Foison Water Project so that pipe can be laid and purchased. We continue to collect school supplies and funds for supplies and school fees for the children of Foison and Passe Catabois, Haiti. As of April 30 we have contributed $585 for school fees and $220 for school equipment. Thank you as well for contributions toward unspecified construction projects in Haiti. Contributions stand at $2,750 as of the end of April 2012. Run for Christ to Benefit Haiti Mission Team: Christy Silva, Delores Fleming and Deborah Dail completed the 8K Achievable Dream/Wounded Warriors run/walk on May 19. Thank you to everyone who supported our runners by donating to the Haiti Mission Team to celebrate their completion of the race. Christy, Delores and Deborah were pleased to run/walk for three very worthy causes. As of May 20 this fundraiser netted $495 for the next Haiti Mission Team.

Thank you in advance for participating in the Day of Pentecost Offering. As of Monday, May 21 $115.00 has been collected for this offering.

The end of year dinner for Women of the Church and Men of the Church will be held on Monday, June 11 at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Room at Denbigh Presbyterian Church. The Haiti Mission Team, as many times in the past, has agreed to prepare dinner for us. What would we do without their dedication for a cause that requires the help of our church? The need is great and many fold in Bruce and Deb Robinson's mission field in Haiti. Preparation for the entertainment is ongoing. We invite everyone to join us for the evening. Babysitting will be provided. The cost for the dinner is $7.00 for the reimbursement for food purchase. Registration at the kitchen counter will begin May 27. We are expecting several music celebrities from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and they will be looking for you. God bless, Anneliese Collins June 19, at 6:30 PM the Lydia Circle will be holding a covered dish supper at the home of Janet Bill.
