As Egypt goes to the polls To Mubaraks cronies: we will defend the revolution with our lives

The Revolutionary Socialists 15 May 2012 http://www.e-socialists.net/node/8760 The Revolutionary Socialists Movement confirms in the days before the first presidential elections since the popular revolution of 25 January, in the light of the frantic attempts by the forces of the counterrevolution to take power through the ballot box, the importance of active participation in the battle to stop the remnants of the old regime entering the presidential palace. Their electoral victory will signify a great victory for them over the revolution, and will increase the obstacles in front of the struggle of the popular classes, especially as the electoral propaganda of the supporters of the old regime concentrates on the issue of stability, by which they mean of course, the restoration of Mubaraks regime by issuing laws restricting freedoms and hostile to the interests of the popular classes thus creating a situation hostile to the continuation of the revolution. We emphasize that our movement will also strive to expand the space for the revolutionary forces through the organisation of the masses and will work to publicise our programme for completing the revolution1, which includes clear political, social and economic demands, as we struggle with the masses in order to defeat any incoming president. We are not supporting any of the presidential candidates affiliated with the Revolution, as they have failed to unite around a single candidate with a clear revolutionary programme. Finally, to every activist in the movement and to every activist who is fighting to complete the revolution, as half-made revolutions are the grave of revolutionaries we call on you to throw everything into the struggle among the masses in the factories, the farms, the universities and the popular neighbourhoods to stop the old regimes cronies. We call on you to mobilise on election day to prevent the vote being rigged as the current balance of forces has led the elections to be held under military rule which has entrenched fraud and means that the incoming president will lack a clear mandate. We will fight against the return of Mubaraks cronies! Down with military rule! Revolution until victory!
