How We Got Here


2005 Parkside Neighborhood Design Developed with Concept for New Pedestrian Bridge 2007 Bridge Conceptual Design Competition Winner Selected by Anacostia Waterfront Corporation AWC) 2007 Bridge incorporated into Parkside Master Plan in Stage 1 PUD and Approval 2007 AWC Dissolved and Project Transitioned to Deputy Mayors Office for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) 2008 DDOT Re-evaluated Design Concepts 2011 Began Preliminary Design, Incorporating 2008 Design Concepts 2011 Current Design Alignment Presentation at the Parkside Civic Association Meeting 2012 Design Progress Up to Tonights Public Meeting

Project Coordination & Challenges


District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Bridge crosses above DC 295 and Kenilworth Avenue Service Drive City Interests Contributing 25 percent, up to $3 million, toward the cost of the bridge Providing 45-foot-wide easement for bridge access at Kenilworth Terrace CSX Bridge crosses above CSXT tracks and construction work will occur within area of tracks with equipment crossing them PEPCO PEPCO power transmission lines above the bridge need to be raised Washington Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Bridge crosses above WMATA tracks and station service building Bridge access at Minnesota Avenue will be within the Minnesota Avenue Bus Transfer Station area
