1. Act 2. Act 3. Act 4. Delegate 5. Delegate 6. Act 7. Act 8. Delegate 9. Act 10.

Delegate Questions These questions should be addressed both individually and by the group: 1. Which tasks are supervisory in nature and which are operational in nature? The tasks that are supervisory in nature are 1, 2, 3,5,6, and 7. The ones that are operational in nature are 4,8,9, and 10. 2. How does each task compare to the list of tasks that cant be delegated on pages 12122? There is not that much on the list of tasks that can be delegated because of this list. I marked a lot of the task as something to act on.

3. For those tasks that you chose not to delegate, were you influenced by any of the reasons listed in Figure 7.4? Not really because when I went through the list I went by what I felt the supervisory should handle and then what I felt the employees should handle. There is not much that the employees really have to do when it comes to the planning of the stores because the supervisory and managers do that. But stuff like stocking the shoes and cleaning the bathroom is not too much asked, I dont think.

4. Choose one of the items on which you and your assigned classmates agreed and one item on which you and your assigned classmates disagreed. 5. Explain the rationale for the issue that was agreed upon by all classmates present.

I just wanted to state that I see how all three of you have agreed on somethings and disagreed on others. But I think that one thing I know that all of us can agree on is how hard it is to have to do the manager jobs or how hard it is to be promoted when only working for the company for 2 or 3 weeks. I agree with Paul that the act ons should be 2, 6, 7, and 8 because these are the tasks that the supervisory/managers should handle to make sure that the right stuff is being done in the store to maintain the stores reputation. I started working at the Dollar General in April of 2010 and I had only been there for a little over 2 weeks and they had one of their third key managers walk out and the position was kind of just thrown at me. I did not really know what I was expected to do and it kind of stayed that way because I was never properly trained to be a manager. I did know that it was my responsibility to make sure that the store was up to date on the sales that were going on in other district Dollar General stores and also my job to open and close the stores on certain days that the other managers could not do it. Although not all of the store updates were done by me, like for example if there was a new POG that came in, which is a planogram that is set-up to show sales or new items, some of the employees that knew how to set-up the POG would be able to do it and relieve me from some of my delegation at this time. But not all POGs were just handed out to the employees some of them only managers could do. I was grateful to have the people that I had when I put in my two weeks notice because they did not put me down because I was leaving they actually helped me update the store, clean it up, put stock away, and announce sales that we were having. 5. Examine the issue on which you and your assigned classmates disagreed. Was your attitude on this issue affected by your own unwillingness to delegate authority? Was your attitude affected by your assessment that the task could not be delegated? Or was your attitude affected by your inclination to delegate but impacted by the difficulty you encountered in determining how the task could be delegated effectively? Explain your answers.

My classmates and I did not really disagree on any on task that we felt would affect our own unwillingness to delegate authority or that affected our assessment of the task that could not be delegated. I believe that we all

have our ways of working and how some of us have had our chance to become manager and see what it is like to become empowered and to be able to hand some of your work down. After that being said sometimes when the work is handed to you from your supervisory that is telling you to do it not to hand it off to somebody else to do it. At times you are at work and you have nothing to do but that is when you try to find something that you should whether it is setting up POGs or doing paperwork for the next big sale.
